Hi All
During the summer while WC I have noticed loads of Wasp Nests and have informed my customers of this. They inturn have got somebody out to sort it out.  Well I want to give this a go, im there already so can charge less, Can anybody tell me where to get info on wasp nest destroying and chemicals used.  I have tried but failed.  Could be a little extra money earn't through the summer months.

Try willko's I did the same last year pest controle charge about £25 same stuff from wilkos 1.87 put it into a dry washing up liqued bottle and blast into nest entrance worked a treat for me..

I've got a suggestion for you, if you are in need of some more work go & canvass some up & leave jobs like that to people who know what they are doing.

Apart from WFPing I also run a small business treating lawns, you know the thing, weedkilling & fertilizing. I had to go to train at a horticultural college to get a safety certificate to use a knapsack sprayer & handle herbicides, failure to have such certificates when handling any type of pesticide can if caught, land you in a whole lot of bother with DEFRA.

Apart from anything else poking around wasp nests with very little knowledge could put you & your customer in danger.

I took the pipe off a calor gas camping stove, turned on the gas, and stuck it in the wasp nest {it was in the ground} I left it for a minute, came back turned off the gas.
One match and the nest was history. Don't do this if the nest is attatched to a house though. Dai

Thick gloves, bee keepers hood, gas gun, long pipe, Ficam D (Dust) or Sorex spray for close range instant kill.

I used to work for B,ham Council as a Wasp Buster, best job I've ever had. Unfortunately, it's only 3/4 months a year.

You would need proper insurance and this would not be cheap. Many of you moan about being undercut then in the same breath your all for undercuting legitimate pest control busineses.

You will find that the major pestcontrol manufactures will not sell to you without proof of profesional qualifications. the profesional chemicals ARE also far stronger.

We do a lot of end of tenancy cleans and looked into doing the flea treats ourseleves. not worth the bother, we pass it on to a local pest control  firm and take a small £5 cut, maynbee you could do the same.

Would definitely agree with that. I put 60 mil of weedkiller in a knapsack of just over 15 litres, so that should tell you how concentrated professional pesticides & herbicides are.

Just don't even think about messing with them if you are not qualified to do so. I also doubt you would get a supplier to sell them to you without the relevant certification.

We are rightly annoyed as WCers when Dave the doley pops up & tries to under cut us, so lets not do the same to other professions.

I thought the same as this person, what a good idea for extra cash.
But after reading your heplful comments, think i will leave this idea.
Besides it will be hard to run down my ladder

a mate of mine a w/c went on a course cost about £2500 but he now employs someone to do his w/c round & concentrates on pest control he wont say how much he earns but he gave me a job which takes 1hr & pulls in £45 cos its a bit high you need to be properly trained for it but its a good earner he says its safer but he once shut himself in an attic after setting off smoke bombs!!!   if your really thinking of it give us a shout & ill ask him where he found out about it

Just leave the wasps alone and they won't hurt anyone. They don't come back to the same nest next year and although they may be a bit annoying they are harmless.

Now bees can be different

Has anyone ever noticed that they don't like the sound of ladders, I have put my ladders several feet from an unoticed nest, and as soon as I started to put my ladders up they begin  to swarm?

soon have the ladders back down and leave the window until next time, I tell the customer but still charge them full price.
