« on: August 30, 2006, 10:23:08 pm »
I got backpack out today to clean the windows of a house. Set it all up and it wouldn't work! ... nothing!
The battery is full, the fuse is still intact but nothing!
Any ideas please?!

You haven't trapped or squashed the wire connecting the battery to the pump have you?

I noticed on one of mine the other week that where i had changed the battery i had cut through the outer covering of the wire when pushing the battery in.

Also check the pump as this has an on/off switch, which can be press by accident.

i checked out the wire. and it all looks ok.
the pump is turned on and off when i need it too.
Today it started working so i thought i'd try a small con roof i had, but half way through ... stopped!
Then it would turn on for a little bit everytime i messed with the battery connection lead. But then ... nothing.
I charged the battery to full, and used it for only about half an hour before it started playing up, so the battery has some juice in it.
Anymore ideas?
I was thinking it might be a lose connection. Any help would be good please guys

Just for curiosity connect it to your van battery, or if you have a spare battery connect it to that and see if it works ok,  it sounds like a battery and or connection, or even a broken wire, the wire can look ok but with some movement can Disrupt the supply,
were you connect it to the battery could be a suspect.

Were you connect to your battery is it by crocodile clips?

It could also be the chip board which regulates the flow rate, disconnect the pump and test directly to the battery.

Richard,

I know what the problem is; your battery's not holding the charge; it's duff.

Exactly the same thing happened to me; exactly; and it'll work again if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it; but only for 30 seconds or so.

If you want, you're welcome to borrow a spare battery of mine, till you get a new one; or at least you can use my battery to isolate the problem; though I'm 99% sure it's your battery.

I'm pretty sure the fault lies with the pump, there is a connection inside the pump (the opposite end to the pressure switch) which becomes loose causing your backpack to work intermittently. If you tap the cover at that end of the pump it will start then stop again. You need to remove the covering and solder the connection.
The higher you climb the further you fall.

Cheers tosh.
I'll take you up on that offer if thats ok!

Another problem i have been having with it is when i turn it off, sometimes, it keeps going!
The only way to turn it off completely is by dissconnecting the battery.
You know how it has four settings, 1, 2, 3 and off. Even when its on off, the pump is still making a sound!

I have finshed a job sometimes and put the backpack in my van, pump not on, only to find a big puddle in my van the morning after.

Has anybody known this before?
