whats your WFP pet hates???
« on: August 27, 2006, 03:16:30 pm »
just out of interest, what do you find the most annoying thing is with regards to window cleaning?

mine has to be people who refuse to walk around you when you are stood there with your 45ft carbon pole attempting to clean windows. for some reason they look at you as though to say "are you going to move out of my way??". they then attempt to squeeze themselves past you, usually giving your pole a little "nudge" on the way by!!!

second is "are you going fishing with that?"..................yes thats hilarious, you crack me up!!!!!  ::)

(and breath............ ;D)

Pole storage.

I am trying to find the best way to keep them on the roof but at the moment it is becoming a pain in the ar**.

I have heard that you can buy a locable plastic tube but not sure where you get them from, if anyone knows it would be handy.

not sure if its what you mean, but i know alot of people who use "stench pipes" (yep i know they are meant for the toilet waste), you can blank off one end and then have a screw on lid on the other. by drilling a hole in the right place you can also screw the cap on with yuor pole in position and also put a padlock through it.

they cost about £30 from any plumbing place B&Q etc.

not tried it myself but know a few who use it and it does actually look quite tidy........for a toilet waste pipe  ;D

Cheers JM,

Thats sort of what I am after.

I have seen one where the brush head stick out underneath and then they shut a flap over the front, can be padlocked if required. This way I can push the pole into the tube, shut and go to next dob then lock when finished for the night?

Thanks for your help.

trev I have the van guard pole holder on my vehicle, and have my brushes with quick release

but you can cut a slot in the tube for the brush heads to stick out,if you go for the larger tube you could have 3 cutouts- north east west, and still place the cap on and lock with padlock, the tube is metal so you would probably need a grinder or simular then smooth of the edge and place something like motorcycle screen edging to protect the edge against the poles

hope this helps jinky

erm, back on original question
yes definately joe public!, people who seem to slow down or freeze at the last moment, you stop to let them by, they slowly walk around you then, yeh like I've got all day!, get out of my way quickly please, this is heavy and you dont want to get wet.
either that or they seem to think its safer to walk behind you with your back to them, caught me out a couple of times and nearly elbowed someone in the face! lol
If I saw someone a few yards away with a bright yellow 45 ft pole and hose oblivious to me cleaning windows of  4th storey (hazard cones always!) I'd give them a wide birth for sure, would'nt you?
ok I always make exceptions to the elderly, disabled , mums with prams etc. but some people just plain annoy me!
oh and ofcourse theres a few others:
hoses snag on absolutely everything!
hozelocks come apart
trees in front of windows( I try to avoid them )
and finally dog mess! hoses just seem to be a magnet for it, infact cat poo is even worse as cats try to be discreet!

thats my rant over! ;D
Dont get me wrong, I still would'nt be without my wfp
no way you'd get me higher than first floor on a ladder these days and most of my work is'nt suitable for trad anyway

Its got to be dog / cat mess . When you reel your hose in if any is about you can bet your hose will go through it.

this looks like what alot of my fellow WFP mates use. you can also drill the cap and then padlock it just to make it that bit more secure.

My little hates are high side windows where you have to stand in the ally and there isnt enogh space to step back so all the water falls on you.

Also, during the recent hot weather there is always one window in a bay that reflects the sun straight down into your eyes and blinds you.

I don't really hate them but you often get people who stop to talk to you because they are curious about the system.

Always seems to happen when you are trying to crack on

You explain to customer that you use filtered water so that
there will be no spots or stains on the window with the new
WFP sysem.

Then you turn up to clean the windows and they say " do you need some water love? Theres plenty in the tap" Or some such nonsense...  ???
