Ro Unit

Bought the RO man 100GPD 6 stage RO system with pressure gauge and inline TDS, only just got the time to have a good look and set it up.

Question time....

1) Why is the inlet TDS reading after the 3 clear filters (sediment, granular and coconut filters) but before the membrane one. I thought the idea was to give readings immediately before and after DI unit, or is it just to access the 3 filters performance?

2) Why the additional carbon filter which on my set up is after the DI cylinder, again I thought DI was the final stage.

Maybe I'm just getting confused, tried reading through all the instructions but only tell what each item does not the actual routing, or even a clear pic.

Cheers

John,

I am always amazed how when people who buy things like ROs have a question or a problem why don't they look in the instruction manual and if the answer isn't there why don’t they ask the people they bought it off. If I bought a ROman RO I my first port of call woulbe ROman.

Any way here is the answer to your first question, the TDS meter needs to compare the TDS on the inlet with the TDS on the outlet.

And the second question, there's really no point in a sixth stage on a wfp RO they are used on domestic ROs as a polish to remove any VOCs left in the water. As it’s usually just a cheap  in-line carbon filter the simplest place put it is on the way out.

Cheers freshwater,
I know it has to compare inlet to output, but its hardly input if it's already gone through 3 filtering processes.

As for reading the instructions, I stated I did, but nothing in there (very basic), as for asking the people who I bought it off..... 9:15 pm on a Sunday ::)

the tds meter measures dissolved solids - sediment is not a dissolved solid and so the meter cannot count it, also the carbon block removes chlorine and other VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds),again these are not solids so the tds meter does not count these either, therefore the tds reading before and after these stages of treatment will be exactly the same.

john,

No one there on a Sunday to take your calls, thats customer service.

Its usually put after the filters because thats the easiest place to put it ahd as jm123 says it wont chang the the reading by much.
