Dumped before the first clean!
« on: May 30, 2023, 05:42:37 pm »
Priced up a job last week.texted last night to say I'd be round first thing this morning(9am)and she replied with 'thank you'.

Turned up and electronic gates are locked!phoned her and pressed the buzzer...no answer! ::)roll

Then an hour later i get a text 'gate's open'...

No apology so I've just blocked her and deleted the job!

Its not often I get caught out with a messer these days but it occasionally still happens from time to time. ::)roll

I had one like that the telephone conversation was aggressive saying I took your number down and I want my windows cleaning regularly!
This is probably now my best customer I know what you mean Daz it looks disrespectful and rude but who knows what’s going on in her life at that time, might be worth taking a deep breath m8.

Absolutely not nigel!

If she can't be arsed leaving the gates  open on the first clean after a text the evening before, then ignoring phone calls and buzzer and then texts me an hour later expecting me to call round again.....

No thanks!😄

It’s a condition of mine to get the gate code before taking them on as a customer.

I learnt the hard way, got locked in a customers driveway for over an hour without a code and no answer on their phone.  >:(

Some won’t give it straight away and tbh I accept that no matter how professional you may look,it happens after a couple of cleans they normally just text the code.

I find it odd you think you've 'been caught out'. You make it sound like live is a competitive thing and you need to be on your guard. Are you hyper-vigilant?

She forgot you were coming, you're not the centre of her world; get over yourself.  She might have been playing with her drums, how would you hear the bell going if you were bashing one out too.

Maybe 10 am is first thing to her. Some of my customers don't start their day until mid morning and that's ok.
Some of my better work can involve working more to suit their time schedule than mine  its only window cleaning and  I think I would have done the first clean and ironed out any problems with time and frequency then.
If it worked out for both then fine if not then no worries.  ;D

Pure evil.

I'm not saying don't dump but it might not be a case for the televised electric chair because of a thoughtlessly locked electric gate.
I know it's a gate crime but as one gate closes.......

The fact she didn’t apologise for failing to leave the gate open says it all. To just text the gate is open despite there being a missed call on her phone from an hour earlier shows a total lack of respect IMO…dumped!

There needs to be a code of conduct here  :D

I'm with Dazmond. Would she have messed a proper tradesman about like that? You know the ones, the ones that charge half a day for a couple of hours. They would probably invoiced for their time lost too. Total lack of respect.

Zip tie her gates Dazmond.

I either get the gate code before the first clean or, unfortunately, I can't do the job.
I know this is based on trust, on the part of the customer, but I have my name and mobile number on the van and my payment slip I leave them has my address on! What more do they want.
I think these type of people aren't rude, they are just so busy they forget about us.
So no code...no clean!
I did a quote at a huge house where the lady told me that if I phone her when I pull up, she can open the electric gates remotely using her phone, and then phone her again when I leave.
'Supposing you're in a meeting' I said.
She said 'that hardly ever happens'.
I think I left skid marks!

You can’t expect them to give you the gate code etc from the off if it was me there’s no way I would either, you have to form some sort of trust and there’s still a lot of window cleaners around that would in no way pass a CRB check trust me on that one.

A customer of mine told me about her friend's window cleaner who is very well to do. One day the woman had to go out while the window cleaner was there. Any way, she forgot her purse and had to pop back and  found the window cleaner lay on a sun bed next to the swimming pool. She sacked him  ;D

We don’t take on any job with access issues without a key or code  it’s very rare they won’t give it , but all staff are ex emergency services and have  CRB checks in place but we don’t advertise that fact , we do several places that have vulnerable adults , autistic kids and abused children  etc and have that work because  we have the paperwork.  We also do a lot of big manor type of houses owned by famous people some want CRB checks others just hand over the keys and codes without any questions, think it all depends on the individual.

With this job you could walk straight out the prison gates and start working with no questions asked especially on a domestic basis, over the last 2-3 years I’ve read about sexual assaults from window cleaners some that couldn’t be more serious.
You could have committed any kind of terrible offence and work for years with no questions, imo I agree with not giving out gate codes from the off I can now let myself in 99% of the jobs I go to but that trust hasn’t come overnight.
