I had a letter come through from the Information Commisioners Office in basic terms telling me that i had to pay a yearly fee of £40-£60 for processing data in relation to GDPR and Data Protection.

It says if i do not pay this fee there is a fine of £4,000.  I have to respond by 22nd October, the letter got lost in my office for 3 weeks oops!!!

It says i can check on the website if i qualify to pay the fee or if i am exempt.

I went on the website and i do qualify to pay the fee.

This is the first i have ever heard of this before though.  Is anyone else on here paying a yearly fee to the ICO?

If i have to pay it that's fine i'm just suprised i havent heard of anyone else in our industry paying this.

For the record they got my details as i am now registered as a limited company and it flagged on their system.

You must have answered the questions wrong, because question 8 says :

8. Do you only process personal data for:

Staff administration (including payroll);
You only hold the personal information of the people you need to for your staff administration.

The information is restricted to what is necessary for your advertising, marketing and public relations – for example, names, addresses and other identifiers

You only advertise and market your own goods and services

The answer to this question is undoubtedly “YES” and that makes us window cleaners exempt.

I filled out the questionnaire linked from this site, and as a sole trader window cleaner keeping records of my round in digital format, I was exempt.
