Plastic "wood" decking
« on: March 09, 2021, 04:24:53 pm »
Customer has this at the back of a house and it's pretty dirty.

I've told them that pressure washing will probably be safest but they seem keep to use chemicals to kill off the algae (they mentioned Patio Magic and I told them to call the customer helpline before letting it anywhere near the decking).  Anyone more knowledgeable than I am able to tell me what might be suitable? To be clear, I'm not going to do this; I just don't want them to wreck the deck.

Hi vin

Yes pressure wash but use 15 degree nozzle - chemicals are ok we wash over with hypo
Any of that marketed cr@p will be ok to use once you get the worst off

We hypo plastic decking with a weak mix to kill algi then pressure wash , haven’t caused any damage of bleaching to the decking  but obviously don’t leave it to long or let it dry out

We use a mono rotary machine fitted with a soft to medium brush with a diluted high alkaline cleaner.  Gets in and out of every single pit, fissure and artificial grain line on the decking and makes very little mess.  Then we rinse with a pH neutral cleaner. Not a drop of Hypo in sight at any dilution.  One of our traders has just been asked to clean 8 Benches made out of the same stuff.  I can see a pressure washer being useful for that.

Wash it, bleach it and wash it again. Bleach comes in plastic drums....think about that.
