We've not reached peak curve on the Covid-19 virus posts yet, but this is worth pointing out...

I agree completely. And now that I've made my decision not to work I am happy with whatever decision any body else makes whether to work or not.
The government as far as I know have not said you are not allowed to work.

That doesn't apply if you work in Devon/Cornwall, however should you try and work in that area you may want to wear a bullet proof vest  ;D

I think for the majority of sensible people it's a question of "should" I go to work and not whether they "can" or are "allowed" to  go.
There is a silent, invisible and indiscriminate killer prowling the streets of our country. It's everywhere, it's all around you now and it's sole purpose is to infect you and your loved ones- then for you and them infect others and theirs. The evidence is in your face, 24/7, humans are dropping like flies. Entire Nations are grinding to a halt like no other time in history. Our own country are building gigantic temporary mortuarys,  field hospitals etc right now! We don't even have enough medical staff, beds or machines to even remotely deal with what's about to happen and IS already happening all around us. It's there for you all to see, right now. No excuses, own the responsibility as it's yours and yours alone now.
So, if you fancy your chances for the sake of One or Two weeks extra wages, then knock yourself out.👍

You are stupid.

Try to have a think and then get back to me.

Hint:  there is a genuine social distancing problem with working on building sites.  And travelling to them, particularly in London.

Explain this.....

Majority of country are staying at home or working from home.

Window cleaners, gardeners (as sole operators) are not coming into contact with people as long as they are payed by bacs or if cash, its left in an envelope for them to pick up.
Only time you may be in danger is if you need fuel.

Now considering if the outcome for this country is 20,000 deaths upwards and most people are at home where is this virus being transferred?
As we have only, (said in fig terms), hit 1000 deaths the places most  people will meet is at food outlets and petrol stations..... Or hospital.

I will leave this here and await incoming...

I really have a problem with the “silent killer outside” nonsense.

Nearly every single one of us Is going to get this!!! Unless you stay home for 18 months (which includes not going out for food shopping)

The problem is volume. Health service can’t cope because it’s all happening too quick.

If you work outside, alone, and follow social distancing, it’s all you can do.

All these people that say don’t work, do you go to the shops????

Government backed by health experts are encouraging people to work if safe to do so.

What do they know though right?

Window cleaners and facebook warriors are far more informed.

I like your posts peavey! We just disagree on this issue.

Finally some clarification instead of a few anonymous individuals interpretation of governments guidelines on the Internet. I'm undecided as yet whether I'll try working this week. I didn't the last one as was waiting to see how things developed plus the confusion of governments stance and the squabbling on here as to who was right.

At least I can now make an informed decision rather than one based on hearsay.

Government backed experts are also  telling the whole nation to stay indoors. Only to go outside if absolutely necessary to support life/health and wellbeing. To take only a maximum of one hours exercise per day, outside your own home- and this must be within your own locality- you must not even travel to do this. All public places are now closed.
Like I said, the evidence is there for all to see and witness. The responsibility is all yours, you are kidding/convincing only yourselves in this matter. It's your choice.

And then they diagnose that their partner could have had it since February.

The exercise isn't compulsory either.  Even in they army they didn't make you exercise everyday.

Last week I listened to an interview with a professor from Bristol University.

He published a study that indicated because there is a link between GDP (basically the prosperity of a nation) and life expectancy - in a nutshell if the economy is too damaged more lives will be lost through this impact than Covid 19.

Too damaged? Did he specify how much damage is too much?
How many windows do we have to not clean before the economy becomes too damaged?
That'd be very helpful and I could plan my work around it.

It depends what your aim is and my aim isn't to educate.

You cannot dig irrational people out of emotive trenches using logic and reason.

But you can annoy them.

I'm just pleased it's not me that's actually advocating, promoting and encouraging people to go out and work in these circumstances.
I'm not that stupid or irresponsible, nor would I wish to shoulder the possible results and consequences of such actions. But hey ho, neither am I a forum hero!

This just shows what panic can do to people, until now Iv always found Peavey to be one of the more level headed on here, blunt at times but level headed.

Here's the thing, and this is true, I have no reason to lie-
Apart from 4 of my family members being currently infected with covid19, earlier today I recieved a message from my friend and fellow window cleaner informing me that he is now self isolating with all the symptoms of covid19. 8 days ago, me and him were having the exact same discussion that is now happening here, in this thread. I stayed at home, he went to work!
It wasn't absolutely necessary or vital that he worked last week, nor would it have been this coming week. I can only hope that he has to experience mild symptoms, he's married with Two children.
As I said, it's your choice now but do you think it wise to advocate the continuation of none vital or necessary work and risk putting even more people at risk?

Trying to be right all the time creates provocation, making someone realise their mistake is education.

It depends what your aim is and my aim isn't to educate.
That's just as well.

I’m sitting out the next month but if no stricter lockdowns are put in place by then to take the option away from us I think I would definately strongly consider going back to work as I’ll be getting cabin fever by then 😂

But if your friend worked in a safe manner following the guidelines it is highly unlikely that he got the symptoms from working.

I think it’s one of these things that because it’s all we hear all day long it makes people paranoid.

1500 people die every month in the uk with flu, but we don’t shield ourselves or scare people that there is a silent killer, like a wolf waiting at the door for them as soon as they leave.

I firmly believe mental health will be a far bigger killer than covid-19...... as a direct result of fear and panic spreading across the nation.

Jesus lads it's time to draw a line under this, the rest of the country are pulling together and we're having  more fallouts over this than we did when the WAHD came in. It's crystal clear that the government want us to work, it's also crystal clear that if people choose to go a step further and lock down earlier then that's also 100% right too. It's on your doorstep now, if you don't know people with it yet you very soon will do, time for a bit of mutual respect, no body's wrong. Cmon boys, we're in this together.

Entire countries are grinding to a halt like no other time in history.

**hysterical post alert**

Unfortunately, because of idiots like you, lives will be lost. ::)roll
You too are causing problems and death, just further down the line. They recon austerity killed 100000. If everyone behaved like you are advocating, downing tools and taking 1000's off the government you will kill people, just it'll be in a year or two.

I think the figure he calculated was that if GDP fell by 6.4% or more that would lead to the greater loss of life.

The point being that lives will be lost through the damage to our economy.

If you work or stay at home is a personal choice. Anyone who castigates others for working whilst adhering to government guidelines is wrong though.

If your customer is happy for you to clean crack on.  If they don't, miss them out. It's the best way to retain your customers.

If you get a complaint from a neighbour l would  just inform them you are working to the guidlines set by government.  Tell them they are the ones breaking the rules for leaving their home to attack you.  Advise them to call the police if they still have an issue and to leave you alone.

I'm not sure KS, at this moment in time you're only entitled to the 80% for employees or other if you have lost business due to the actions of the government or have been forced to close, walking away from work doesn't qualify which is why a lot so called non essential factories and businesses are still open, the cost to force these businesses to close doesn't bear thinking about.

I can’t help but think that the governments big u-turn from originally saying only those with ‘essential jobs’ should be working, to now saying ‘where it’s not possible to work from home’ is just a massive caveat. They’ll use this further down the line to not pay out the 80% to the self employed that they think should now be out earning.

It’s just so un-Tory like to pay out and effectively be giving people a pay rise that are working through it.

I think there’s going to be a lot of disappointed people come June/July.

Good point Sean, but they delayed social distancing for the same reasons, until it was no longer viable to do so. At this minute in time you could say that we are on a soft lockdown, IMO there will come a time very soon when we are put on a far tougher lockdown, which in turn will mean as window cleaners we are no longer permitted to work. I will be delighted if I’ve got this wrong tho🤞

Come.

People just need to follow the things put in place. They might be more forceful about the measures already in place, policing streets more.

I hope I’m wrong but I think we will always “technically” be allowed to work, and this will mean that we don’t get this 80% grant.

Who knows though.

I don’t think they’ll care tbh. I don’t just mean the ones are at home won’t get paid, I mean the ones who are working also. Basically everyone they think could be working.

They’ve also left themselves wiggle room by saying there’s 5% that won’t get taken care of.

I’m not anti Tory btw, I voted for them the last 3 elections, I’m just being realistic.

Giving people 80% of their averages profit, aswell as allowing them to carry on earning thus actually making more money from the pandemic than they would normally just seems incredibly generous to me.

(Unless of course, they planned this all along to enable a mega strict lock down that bans all but essential work)

I think the government know full well that there won’t be many self employed people working at all when tougher measures come in. If they thought for a minute a lot of self employed people would be able to continue to work throughout the pandemic there is absolutely no way this grant would have been offered.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I have never seen it said only those with "essential jobs" should be working. It's been made clear what the Government's proposal was in regarding help for the self-employed for those who qualify and what the current criteria are to qualify.

I think for the majority of sensible people it's a question of "should" I go to work and not whether they "can" or are "allowed" to  go.

I can't see anything changing in the rules for at least another two weeks.  Boris said these restrictions are in place for 3 weeks and then it will be reviewed.

By this time they will then either extend the current restrictions further, or make them stricter.   It will take 2 or 3 weeks to see if these measures are working or not.   Nothing will change for another 2 weeks. Remember he is not trying to stop the virus, just slow it down.

I can see this going on for 4 to 6 months

How will they know that we're not out earning?

I don’t think they’ll care tbh. I don’t just mean the ones are at home won’t get paid, I mean the ones who are working also. Basically everyone they think could be working.

They’ve also left themselves wiggle room by saying there’s 5% that won’t get taken care of.

I'm not sure about that.
A lot of us have been affected by the virus and that's what the grant is for.

I agree with your last sentence though.
I think that's what is for. You get the money and there's no comebacks if there is a stricter lockdown.
A concern is, what if it goes beyond June? I don't think it'll be as generous next time.
Let's hope we don't need it.

I've read a report citing Imperial Collage London which estimates UK peak Covid-19 day as the 5th April.  If true the numbers of deaths should decrease from then.

13th April is the government's review day; it's bank holiday Easter; though I'm sure they'll have made a decision prior.

In 2018, there were 541,589 deaths registered in England and Wales (I can't find the totals for the whole of the UK and can't be arsed to google NI and Scotland too).

So that means on a normal year we average 1489 deaths per day just in England and Wales.  (Interestingly enough I just googled to see the birth rate and we had 200,000 more births than deaths in 2018.)

I don't think some people comprehend what being part of a population that's 67 million means.

Cheers for the link; just reading it now.

I don't believe we can believe China's figures:

Quote
death tolls growing more quickly in Italy, Spain, the UK and US than they did in China at the same stage of the outbreak.

But maybe they are right?  China was welding people into their houses.

But there was nothing in there that gives an alternative date for a UK peak of 5th April.  Which kinda makes sense to me; that's 14 days after our lockdown; time for the virus to get a grip on those who caught it last weekend when they were in pubs and massed in parks etc.

People die all the time, however, the world doesn't grind to halt within weeks because of flu! Statistics regarding normal death rates are meaningless. You should be worried.

I posted the info a couple of days ago. Imperial College report suggested a peak on 5th April with 260 deaths. We had 260 deaths two days a go i think, that dropped by 50 yesterday to about 210. See what todays figures are but the guy who gave the info the the Commons Comittee has posted some other info here:

Statistics regarding normal death rates are meaningless.

They do matter; I was reading a statistician's view on how we can work out how many people actually died from Covid-19 and annual death tolls will be needed.

Why?

Well people can die WITH covid-19 and not necessarily because of it.  There'll also be a lot of people who die without Covid-19, but died as a consequence of not being able to receive proper treatment (these are still Covid-19 victims).  And it's also difficult to know what people actually died of.

So the most accurate way to work out death totals - at some point in the future - is to average some previous years death totals and compare them over the same period when Covid-19 was killing the UK population.

What makes me think it hasn't is the way they where talking at todays briefing and also they changed the way they reports the statistics now so there could be a blip from that. Need a few more days to really tell i think but i can't see anything  anywhere to suggest we won't be headed on the same track as Spain, Italy etc... Bear in mind i know there has been lots said about Italy having an ageing population but also they only locked down after 800 deaths ? No sure about Spain.

Oh no, just an emotive one like most of yours.

Not really, Og, I suspect you don't know what an appeal to emotion really is.

It's form of pearl-clutching hysterics where someone will shout "But think of the children!"

Pointing out what the government guidelines actually say and the reasoning behind them is taking a rational and logical point of view.

Calling someone a stupid idiot is not emotional either; facts are facts; not emotions.

You stupid idiot.  ;D
Youre getting confused Tosh and replying to the wrong post.

Entire countries are grinding to a halt like no other time in history.

*Hysterical post alert*.

Hmmm, emotive. I'll Take That, Babe.
But most of mine are not emotive because Everything Changes, Never Forget that.

Im gonna go out on a lim....... window cleaners working safely will not contribute to the spread of covid-19.
Someone has already beaten you to that little gem. And he claims The Chief Medical Officer backs him up.
Perhaps you could make up a slogan.

I had a window cleaning mate with a similar attitude. Addicted to sugar. Always eating Bounty bars, chocolate raisins and marshmallows. I warned him about diabetes but he said he was immune and that it wouldn't spread in the window cleaning fraternity. But he did catch diabetes and had to have a leg amputated. I picked him up from the hostipal and got him a wheelchair but he wouldn't have it. Pig headed, as ever, he even refused crutches and said he'd get to the car by himself.
He went out on a limb.

Stay safe.

Oh it's true, Dave. And now he's locked down with no visitors and is getting depressed. Window cleaners, past and present, are not immune to the pandemic.
I promised him when this is all over, I'll go round and we'll have a good old knee up and get well and truly legless.

Tell you what, he made the right decision. If he came round to my house to try and clean windows with all this corona going on, I’d tell him to hop it.
