Been reading a lot about this and i can see the argument of just letting it run and get it over with so to speak. I think this was the initial plan with talk of "herd immunity", hoping the many who get infected protect the rest of us.

The major flaw with it though is that it would overwhelm the NHS all at once meaning many people would not the care and subsequently more deaths. Look at Italy, they are essentially having to let over 80s die because they cant cope.

Locking it down wont stop the spread but the aim is to slow it so they can cope and give each person better treatment, resulting in less deaths overall.

Thats 0.03% of the population.

thats an estimation based on the new strategies IF......and its a big IF people follow the rules advised by government. The difference is other countrys are enforcing it we are just advising it.

Not sure I understand that figure considering the UK’s population is around 66 million.
China’s population is 1.4 billion and they had so far 3241 deaths

Our strategy and china`s is totally different, they had a military style lock down and contained it. But what we are waiting to see is will it pop back up again a soon as the curfew is lifted.

I think what helped is that the majority of cases were in wuhan so they locked it down sharpish.

I think we are more comparable to Italy

It is a potential situation that could come in to play.
I cannot see how a large percentage of the population will stand being suppressed for a long period of time. People will rebel and refuse to be isolated and it will be survival of the fittest in that situation.
It's a really poop state to be in, and i hope things don't go that far.
But it's a possibility......

Yet, for example, teachers who are crying out for schools to be closed will be on full pay.   I dread to think if the NHS, Care Workers, Retailers all gave up so quick.

Maybe they should just close schools when the time is right and deploy the paid staff into the NHS to help reduce the pressure during times of need.

A customer i spoke to this morning said her kids school had lost a couple of Teacher's due to self isolating.
And so the small village school was now understaffed and Parents had been asked to keep their kids at home if possible.
The school is still currently open but only around 10 kids or so were in attendance.
She said there is at least one other infant school in the area that's in the same boat.
So unfortunately some school's are already barely able to function without being told to close by Government.

Im screwed either way but im used to managing and not overly stressing about these things. For me at least, they have a way of working out in the long run.
Currently kids are off school, my mother in law is self isolating. My wife as you know is not great and her health changes daily and hourly.  So for instance, shes taken a turn for the worse at the moment and having a dizzi / tired spell.  So ive had to pack up n come home to watch the kids. Ive needed to text my customers who unlock their gates to postpone for another day. My work is currently day by day or at the moment, half day by the remainder of the day........
(Last month was hard with the three storms, bad weather and family health. I did 3 out of 7 rounds in feb due to all of that, but saved by switching to some bigger jobs ie softwashing etc which bought the money in)
I book in the additional jobs either in the first week or last of a month and this makes up the short fall of money lost due to not completing full rounds.
Yes its manageable because of how Ive now organised my work and the quality of my work to match our current circumstance.

Sure things might get worse and it is certainly worrying times, jm not denying that but, try looking for the silver lining and keep positive.
Haha im getting sick of hearing of ones moaning that they are well and self isolating / working from home...........flippin heck, man up and stop moaning!  Try being at home with health issues for over a yr like my mrs and others. Lol i would love a week paid by my boss for working at home  😁😁🤦‍♂️

I had "the call" this morning re some of my commercial stuff, offices mainly saying don't clean until we call you. They are all closing for the foreseeable future "maybe 12 weeks or more". Kick in the gonads for sure.

Thankfully shes on her own, so has plenty of tea bags and toilet rolls to last 😁
So far she just aches badly like you would with a flu and tired and suffers with a tight chest but so far she is managing at 60 yrs old

Already started.  School contracts cancelled, pubs cancelled.  Some residentials have cancelled due to no money coming in.   I do feel for them though.

Now schools are closed, I expect more.    Plod on and do the best you can.   You can't  control this at all.

Phew, glad dr mats on the case.    Thankfully she got through the 111 call n spoke to whoever on the other end.  They are only testing or were at that point, testing vulnerable ones and not everyone else.

Theyve tested 50,000 people and 2,000 have tested positive.  48,000 have tested negative. Simple mathematics.
