Roof clean - concrete roof tiles

(1/2) > >>

James pryer:
Hi all,
Hope you’ve had busy weeks.

I am about to do my first concrete roof tile clean. And wanted to get a couple of pointers.

Is there anything I NEED to know when cleaning concrete tiles?

The plan is to just jet wash the moss and lichen off and then spray with hypo.

It’s safe to walk to concrete roof tiles and not have the need for roof ladders? I will be attached to harness attached to a mobile scaffold.

I’ve seen some people remove each roof tile and clean under. Is this necessary?

Many thanks
James

generally speaking you should be ok on concrete tiles - just take it slowly we had a roof that the batons were either rotten or to widely spaced and the roof was 'springy' and there was a trail of broken tiles where an aerial fitter had climbed up to the chimney.

P/W and hypo will do it - no need to lift tiles - thats asking for trouble IMO

how much does the scaf tower weigh ? will that hold you if you fell ??

Great thanks!

The scaff will be weighed down with equipment and sand bags. I’m thinking if it Weighs triple the amount I do I should be fine.

Do you find that the hypo sometimes creates a little flashing on the lead or not?

Thanks

Smudger:
thats good had visions of you going down and the tower going up  ;D

No but its quite a weak mixture - only ever had a reaction once - lead flash over a bay window - had an orange hue to it and that was when used at a very strong mix - if worried rinse with water in these areas

pressure washing and hypo...
