Nothing much seems to be happening on here lately so I thought I'd start a new thread and see what happens. How far are you prepared to travel  through the course of your work? What's the furthest you have traveled to do a job? How much do you charge to do jobs not classed as "local".

I don’t like going too far I much prefer local if I want to go far it usually includes a passport and my knotted hanky.

To answer your question if I were to go further a field it would have to be a good paying job so I’m not sure if it would have additional costs more of it would have to be big enough to warrant me go that far.

I generally travel 10 mile circcle for anyone...ie small jobs included fitting around stuff in the area, and up to 25 miles for sales over 200. ..And yes it has gone quiet on here

Very rarely travel more than 3 to 5 miles.

Occasional job further away but I will put a few quid on the price to cover petrol.

As for travelling 25 miles to a job - no thanks

I cover a 12 mile area but usually it’s under 7 .

ill go further for job that pays enough for me to get the same per hour I’ll get for local with travel time and fuel ⛽️

I think as long as you live in an ok area you should have enough population that you don’t have to travel more than 5 Miles. I used to say 90% of my work was within 3 miles of my front door.

The great thing about working in such a short area is people constantly see your van and know your local.

 It also helps to keep all your marketing within this area, which is the biggest negative with internet marketing, people from a massive distance see you your website so call you, even Google Adwords can only be targeted to within 20miles of your location

Generally 30 mile radius.......could be more if the price is right......but then its in & around the beautiful Dorset countryside so really dont mind.......

Last month I had three jobs that involved a lot of travelling . The first was a round trip of 130 miles, the second was 192 mile round trip and the third was a trip of 265 miles . On the last job I  was on my way home having traveled  150 miles and was only 20 miles from home  only to find the road closed due to a fatal accident. The only way home was a detour of 115 miles. Having said all this, I cover the west coast of Scotland which is probably the most awe inspiring countryside in Britain.
