Window Cleaning Books Question for Mike Boxall
« on: June 21, 2006, 04:30:38 pm »
Dear Mike,

I spent 25 years in the book trade.

I am puzzled as to wht Express Cleaning Supplies is adding VAT to books.

I can asure you there is no VAT on books.

However the two books you have on Window Cleaning look very interesting.

Regards

Ian

That bad Mike, he'll be adding VAT to food and children's clothing next.

VAT is a strange thing though.  Apparantly there's no VAT on children's clothing, but there is VAT for clothing for adults to wear.

However, Wor Lass is only 5' 1" tall and weighs in at around 8 stones in her thong, so there are childrens clothes she can purchase and wear.

On the extremely rare occassion she buys a 'child's' item of clothing for her own personal use, I always remark to the shop assistant that it will be worn by an adult and to add the VAT on.

They never seem to understand.

Maybe Mike has just confused the complex VAT rules this country has.

What I always found strange was no VAT on Porno books.

I was about to complain that my post had been deleted but then realised its gone midnight.

What a lot of posts you get in a day on this section.

Hi Guys

Well spotted!

You're quite right our site does seem to 'say' that there is vat but when you actually order them they are zero rated and no vat is charged (go on try it!). I think they're the only products on our site that are zero rated but the template systems we use all have the 'plus vat' text on them.

I'd like to have a different carriage charge for them as once the standard rate has been been applied it does makes quite a difference to the standard price. Unfortunately, it's difficult to get the ordering system to act differently for just 2 items.

They're still worth buying though!

Mike
