I was going to set this up but switch for a chimnea and leave it to fill my tank late evening

So kinda intrigued as to how your going to use it?   In same way and fill your tank up from ibc    or use on roof  and loop the water through as you use it, kinda swapping it for a combi boiler

There are much better ways than that, more efficient if you google search thoroughly

Why pay for gas all year round ?

Build a box
Put 10m of bent up copper 10mm pipe in it .

My immediate reaction is that what's required is as much surface area as possible so your setup absorbs as much solar energy as possible.  I'd find a used radiator, flush it out very well, paint it with matt black paint then put it in a case with a used double glazed panel in front of it.

Your 10m x 1cm setup has a total area of 0.1square metres.

A rough guide to solar energy is about 1Kw/m^2.  The specific heat capacity of water is about 4,200Joules/degC.

So if you have 0.1m^2 of pipe that's 100% efficient, you'll be able to raise the temperature of one litre of water by 0.1 x 1000w / 4,200 = 2 hundredths of a degree centigrade every second.  Pretty sure that maths is correct but I'm open to correction.

You need a bigger area.  Even a tiny 60cm x 30cm radiator would be nearly double the area and would all be dead square on to the sunlight.

When I used to work on the scuba diving boats out of Eilat in Israel at the end of the day there was a hose-pipe laid out on the pontoon. We used to take a shower with the water in that hose, straight out of it, no shower head or anything. The water was toasty warm every day, it had been sat in the pipe for 10 hours or so and it heated the water up luverlee.

The weather was +40°C - 45°C though.

This system just hasn't got the oomph, and we haven't got the weather. It'll take 25 minutes to raise one litre of water by one °C in weather that we never experience in this country.

Back to the drawing board.

I know as you say it is almost not doable , it deff is not with what i have anyway , i had all but the copper pipe laying in the shed so i only stand to have wasted £23 so far .
All i know is that i managed to get water almost instantly from 18c to 40c with poor Febuary sun , and that was with a very poor flow rate , nothing like the 1.7Lpm that i need at brush head , on demand is not happening thats for sure !

I have a couple of ideas in my nutty head that wont cost to try , any thoughts welcome , i am not overly bothered by hot in the summer , its always been a comfort thing in the winter for me anyhow , if i can have it even a bit warm without buying gas why shouldnt i eh ?

Nah , not listening   :P

I Know what you say about the hose , i have on times had it laid out for as little as 5 mins and the pressure build and heat has been shocking , and that has been with yellow 6 mm .
I honestly think that if we could safely use black hose it would be a game changer , just asking for troublr though .

Im gonna keep on to see what i can achieve , nothing to lose is there ?
