Kinky.......hoses!
« on: August 01, 2017, 03:17:44 pm »
Cannot be doing with my current set-up of 100mtr of 13(od) reel hose and a rectus with tap leading on to my pole.

The damn stuff keeps kinking up and generaly being a pain in the butt, the pole hose is the worst, its new gardiners yellow one the most expensive they had. Thought it may be less problematic.

Anyways lm thinking of going all reel hose off reel through pole too, or all pole hose through both? And just having a small tap at the end of the pole before the brush and doing away with the rectus.

I have a univalve inside the pole.

Anyone else had this problem?

Anyone else have just 1 type of hose off reel and through pole?

Which is better, all reel hose or all pole hose?

Many thanks

I use Gardiners  heavy duty pole hose on my reel. I did try running it up inside the pole too but found it added a lot of weight.
Its weight is of benefit though if using on reel because it lays flat and IMO safer if you were to lay it across a road. I now have a 15 m length of Gardiners green pu pole hose on end of reel with an exceed tubeless set up. The green stuff is great ! if it wasn't for the fact I have to go across roads I'd probably use a reel full of it.  I know not everybody appreciates the benefits of a tubeless set up but one thing to consider if you are going to leave the pole hose connected from reel to brush head with no connections is it will inevitably get twisted up throughout the day - being able to disconnect either tubeless or conventionally will prevent that being an issue.

Just spent the day rigging the new eletric reel with 100 meters of Exceed 'All weather Blue'...... who would have thought new hose would be so 'twisty-turny'  ;D must have ran the hose out 12 times or more to get the hose 'straight'..... nice day off this was!

Have for many, many years used micro-bore as per the pic (yellow) hose and its bullet proof think that hose is at least 7 years old possibly older cannot remember and always just used whatever pole hose Gardiners have put on their poles when I buy them....

Will be going 'tubeless' when van is refitted.

Cannot answer your question yet about which hose is better i.e s singular size or 'mix n match' but I'll tell you in a few weeks :D but yeah I understand your frustration.

If you lay the new hose on the floor and pull the hose off it, you're putting in one twist for every loop you pull off.

The only way to do it IMO is to tie one end to your van then walk away from it letting the whole reel rotate with your arms acting as a spindle as you pull hose off (basically, you need to act like a hose reel with the whole roll).  It's back breaking (as it happens I did it yesterday so it's very fresh in my mind) but it means your hose starts out untwisted.

It also helps to do it in the sun.  Or at least it seems that way, as the hose softens and settles.

Thanks Perfect Windows.... I kind of got that after seeing the mass of noodles I created :P..... all done now..... Now to fit the van out with the tank, frames and dog cages...got a few electronic goodies to play with but more when I start fitting the van out in about 3 weeks ;D

A few clues.... IR Motion sensor, Electro-magnetic lock, gas-strut, 4 ch remote control.

Yep that's how electricians unreel cable otherwise they get twists in it.

I thought you asked this the other day ?
If not my mistake  ::)roll
I run 100 m of Gardiner green PU on the reel , this also goes up the pole via DIY tubeless , it lays out just fine , you need to keep an eye on it when you first get it , but it soon settles down , you may need to pull the whole lot out at the end of the day and run a wet rag down it a few times to get the twists of the day back out , if you do this its just dandy .
I also see that you have a tap on the end of your reel hose , why if you have Univalve ?
I have taken a few pics of what i do , if you convert just make sure to make the hole in the pole butt cap a bit bigger to let the rectus through easier !

I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

I use that tap as flow control for when l need to slow it down for certain windows. Or sometimes lm in the mood to go full flow or others l like to take my time a bit and use a slower flow. But l may just put a little tap at the end of the brush for that.

Im not sure l would like to bother getting all the kinks out daily, that sounds like another job! Im trying to cut down on them, but then lm truely annoyed with the whole kinking situation. Its the worst part of my day and when l think about it, realy slows me down and stresses me out.

Would you say on balance the green pu is less stress overall?

Its the best system i have found in 12 years !

I am not sure what you are running though , are you saying its the yellow gardiner stuff that is rubbery and braided feel on the outside ?

I use the exceed tubeless kits in both vans

One van I use 100m blue microbore from  eBay just because best price I can find and I like the colour with 20 meters blue exceed pole hose

Works well

On set up In my van one reel has 50 meters blue microbore 50 metres of blue exceed
hose, on my reel I use 80 meters blue exceed hose only and I prefer this although I'm not keen of going over a road with just pole hose

But it works well it was fitted March 2016 so it's lasted well

I really like the exceed blue hose from exceed as a hose reel hose which goes straight up the pole, but possibly not for everyone

I got the same with the reinforced , i reckon you do like i do , without knowing it you spin the pole over and over whilst its in your hands , this sort of doubles the hose on itself and then it twist again , like a FLUMP sweet  ;D

The other issue you might have is over pressure , you say you dont run controller , its not deadending , just banging right up to 100psi or above when you shut off , this i have found is a sure way to get big kinks and twists in the reinforced , cos i bet its lovely for you when the water is flowing .......am i right  8) ;D

I think there may be some truth to what your saying, gotta be honest though lm not sure what the hoses are doing when the flow is on as lm busy cleaning. It had crossed my mind that l may be spinning the hose round myself as l tried to find an explanation for the situation but l reasoned that l couldnt be doing that much spinning myself.

I think lm coming closer to a remedy though thanks mate, do you think this may work on an slx 27 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lPFwRnTdMho.

Thanks

The overpressure thing sounds like a good explanation too, makes sense now. Maybe l need a controller? Im considering a split realy as lm fed up with humping the battery in each night so if l got a controller it can tell me how the batterys doing with regards charge. Things are starting to make sense now, cheers!

Your wife has a controller i think , try on that before you go spending , and that youtube clip might not work for you as you have univalve , you need movement on the hose dont you !
I would not like to stick a metal washer on the end of section 1 , i reckon it would chew it to bits if it was moving !

Last 2 days ive ran my pumps on full throttle because I blew my pure freedom digi standard controller. I was controlling the flow slightly with the valve tap i use......must admit im glad my replacement controller is coming tomorrow. Especially for the voltage reading, so I know if i need to connect or disconnect the solar panels.

That vid, i saw one similar and it was a USA dude who stuck a valve tap near his brush and I thought that was a crazy idea, still not convinced.
Im all for experimenting (work related chaps!) But all that faff just to not put pole and hose away together! Or am i missing something.

Paul you mentioned about a valve tap, where and how is yours connected?
Im doing another vid soon of my new van layout and i will show a little how I have mine set up on my waist with an holster holding valve tap. (As ones have asked me about this in past) point for asking is that my main microbore hose doesnt kink overly much but if im not careful my pole hose does.
On my main brush I have the gardiner all weather pole hose I think (yellow hose) which is quite a stiff hose but because I use hot it doesnt stay stiff. On my 2nd pole I have a dark green pole hose (I forget which hose that is) and again its quite stiff untill I run hot through it, but thats not important. On this pole I use a gardiner gooseneck valve. When i use this pole, the hose can kink and does so many a times. The hose is about 25 - 30m long and like P@F Says, we must twist the pole alot plus the fact its connected tightly to the valve connection, it doesnt spin freely and so its bound to kink, plus twisting for the on/off motion.

On the other hand, my main brush, plle hose and microbore can do so, but not as much and its this one I mostly use all day. Because the pole hose is connected to my valve tap with a rectus fitting it has the ability with an helping hand to turn or spin. So if I notice the pole hose is starting to twist, a simple movement of my hand to my waist and i can spin the hose either left or right to counter twist the beginging of a kinked hose.

i think you might end up regretting that move dave.i have the exceed blue hose(as pole hose)but it does twist and kink quite a bit at times.i can see it being a nightmare with 100m on a reel.i use standard microbore and it very rarely kinks.

One thing I used to find odd with braided hose when I was using it was how it behaved differently when hot as opposed to cold and when under pressure as opposed to not under pressure, in respect to how it twists up I mean.

Dazmond >>> I did get 65ft of the Blue Exceed hose to try out and used that on my slx 25.... and to be honest its been pretty good. There are a few peeps on this thread that have been using much longer lenghts of the Exceed Blue so it'll be interesting to see how 100 meters plays out when the temps start dropping in a few months....  ;)

If needs be I can always throw the yellow peril from Cleantechg when it was operating back on if need be..

Thats exactly how i am playing it with Gardiner green , if it doesnt like the temp drop then that huge yellow stuff will have to go back on !!
