Had a SLX 25 for over 3 years. Only problem was split end. Alex soon sorted that out.
Just over 1 year ago I got a SLX 18 as my main pole. I swap to the 25 with an extension on for larger jobs etc. Had loads of problems having to adjust clamps all the time, to avoid slip.
Alex sent me a set of new clamps, which solved it for a while. (thanks again Alex)
Had enough of it slipping, so decided to investigate. Got my calliper's out to check wear along the pole. All ok. then I noticed the no1 section had massive wear. The clamp is 3 inch down from the top, because of a spacer to allow for ani value. Don't think they are made any harder where the clamps rest.
My older SLX25 had no sign of wear at all
So my options.
get a section 1 £60
get a new SLX 18 £200
Now I always fancied an extreme, but so many complain about snapping etc. Is the carbon harder than that of the SLX?
A 22 would be the same weight as a SLX18, yet reach most of my jobs easier. On the down side, I would have to slide open 1 extra section.

Your thoughts.
Think ill keep it as yet another spare, or ebay it. they fetch £100 used

if i was you ide keep it as a spair and try the extreme if the extreme dont work out for you then just sell it on e.bay and use your slx insted im kina in  the same boat as you my slx22 is old but the only section thats worn is the number 1 im just guna take the plung and get the extreme sod it lol

An extreme would wear even quicker I would have thought. The clue's in the name sureley.

I think it's a case of weighing up pole maintenance time with cost of a new pole or section. Just need to get the balance right.

Those grit stops Gardiners sell work great at reducing pole wear.

Use a paint brush and apply a little araldite/epoxy resin to the worn section. It works a treat and lasts for quite a while before needed to apply again. Make sure you use it sparingly or you won't be able to close the sections

To ensure even wear on sections try to vary where you clamp, even at near closed length I do this, especially on section 1

But we don't. We hold them vertical. Let them slide closed then lock the clamp. Making the closed part harder would be a good idea

If you want to apply thinly, heat it a little first.

That's why I asked if the xtremes were any harder. Odd that my 3 year old one doesn't though.
Got an old ex ceed pole. Clamps are ace. No wear to the pole. Also don't get black hands

Its a lot more money for a little less weight

  if your happy with the slx then just replace the section m8 as extreme will were quicker

rather than faff about i just replace my slx every year and bang the old one on ebay, you always get plenty of money back too so it makes sense to keep the main part of your equipment updated with the amount of money it makes u

I use an extream 18 as my every day pole it's used 7 hours a day 5 days a week I did snap the no1 section closing a window once but I don't think the wear rate is much different to the slx I have them in 18,22,25 not sure what your photo is showing My extream 18 is approx 19 months old and has some ware on it but Ime sure it will do at least another year , I work on the principal that if I get a year out of my most used pole Ime happy any more than that's a bonus

Me too.
The lad who used to work with us didn't maintain his pole at all and I had to build up the ends with a couple of layers of clear lacquer. Alex did a video once on using epoxy resin/glue (can't remember) to build the worn sections at the top up again.

Slx18 and slx22 all the way for me as they both have a shorter length than the extreme 18 I know everyone's work is different but I only uses my slx22 on maybe 2 to 4 windows max a day,  and only twice a month my slx22 with extension added,  love my slx18 almost as much as my clx4 lol.

The slx18 is th same weight as a extreme 22 I personally can't justify the extra cost for a pole when approx 97 to 98% of my work the slx18 covers with ease.

Cut off the worn bit then glue the clamp back on.  You'll end up with an SLX 21.95 but with counselling you'll get over it.
