Non-return sewer excess charge.
« on: May 02, 2017, 01:44:21 pm »
Ive had a small dispute with Southern water over my sewer charge recently and to be honest they’ve been very efficient and co-operative. Without fitting any waste meters or monitoring kit they’ve agreed to a 71% reduction in my waste water charge effective from 08th March.

I have had previous conversations with them about this, last time was probably a couple of years ago where they just blanked me over it and were just tw@ts. Anyway, seems you just have to be persistent.

Below are the contents of an e-mail I received from them earlier today.

Re: Hill Road

I am writing further to my email dated 27 April 2017.

Your application for an increased non-return to sewer allowance has now been reviewed. The volume of water shown as being returned to the sewer has been set at 29% with effect from the meter reading on 8 March 2017. This percentage will be applied to all future bills.

Whilst writing I would take this opportunity to advise you that it is our policy to review these returns periodically. However, if in the meantime there is any change in circumstances you should notify me without delay so that the situation may be reviewed.

I trust the above information is helpful. If you need to clarify any of the above, please call 0330 303 0277 (Calls charged at local rate) between 8am–7pm, Monday to Friday and from 8.30am–2pm on Saturdays, or check out our website https://www.southernwater.co.uk/

So Slacky, how or where do you dispose of your waste water from your r/o.

I once tried to run it into the garden but it came up in the neighbour's garden and flooded it out.

We are on the coast so only have 1 waste water pipe (soil pipe). All the drains seem to go into it including the water off the roof.

If you can prove that your waste water goes into a soak away and not a drain you don't pay any sewage charge at all where I am . I have a separate water meter for the outside  tap and just pay for the water have been doing it like this for 17 years now , makes a big difference to what you pay

This makes sense now. Thank you.

We have a very high water table so probably why the wfp waste water didn't soak away. When I put up a wooden fence in the back garden, all the holes we dug for the support poles filled up with water.
