Hi guys,

To those that box your tank in, how do you tell when it's near empty?

Do you leave a gap somewhere to be able to see?

I glued in a right angle fitting and then fitted a clear pipe which re-enters the tank on the top with another right handed fitting I used a glue called Serius glue the water will show through the clear pipe. This is the fitting I used .

Old van set up but the new ones boxed out the same, just the equipment is different and no more boxes on wheel arches etc...

Just cut out the hole above the tap to see water level

Can't you do it with a John Guest fitting, rubber washer & back nut to avoid having to glue it? It would be more flexible.

What i did once was , this is only good if you can see the tank outlet , i took a barbed T conneccter and put it inline after the tank outlet so it was like an upside down T , on the bit that pointed up i put some clear hose as tall as the tank , job done !

Was the top just open? As you didn't connect it back in at the top at all?

You can leave it open ended , just make sure the clear tube goes above tank height , probably best to stick some of that nylon scourer pad in the end , cant see as any water would come out though ,
Mine had a hozelock tap on the end so i could fill the backpack whilst the pumps were in use .

This was how i did mine as i already had the lid with filler tap already.

I've got an Ionics tank which is insulated underneath, around the sides and on the top. It only had one small screw cap on top for transferring water into it. I cut out two holes on the top with a jigsaw and fitted two screw on lids and sealed around them with roofing sealant, doesn't leak at all.  Easy to unscrew large lid to quickly see water level. Took about half hour to cut, fit and seal two screw lids.
