should not have posted this morning about not loosing any from a price increase.

kept one cheap job on as she went through about 3 window cleaners in a year before she found me a few years back and always said please don't stop coming blah blah blah .... went from £16 to £20 and even at 20 its not over priced ... explained about the vat etc ... text an hour later please cancel future cleans  ::)roll  :)

Being totally honest- if my wc added 4 quid tax onto me I also would cancel and find a none vat registered one without a second thought.

My neighbour refuses to use any vat registered services if he can avoid it.

yes there's loads of cheaper window cleaners than me (vat or not) she will find one - will they do a great job, be reliable, go out of there way to get to her house ?? who knows may be may be not ... maybe she will need to go thru 3 or 4 again to find a gooden.

but tbh loosing her wont be effecting me at all

Ian 101's post above this one is the main reason.

They will do exactly as you did before you became a tax collector!
It's not a dig at you Ian, just being honest. As Dave Willis mentioned- I too avoid Vat registered business's when ever possible.

Roll your eyes all you like. Being VAT registered is no guarantee of a great service.

Here have one back  ::)roll

But it is a guarantee the the customer is paying 20% over the odds- for no reason that benefits them! ;-)

Exactly. If my window cleaner just bumped the price by 20% for no real benefit to me as a client, off he fornicates.

ive just had my van sign written (with logo too) for cash.he did a great job.(£160) ;D

putting up prices by £4 or £5 a pop are gonna result in cancellations whether your VAT registered or not.its also got nothing to do with being "professional".like whats just been said, just because your more expensive doesnt mean your more reliable/better than a cheaper window cleaner. ::)roll ;D
price higher/work harder!

as regarding my own price rises no problems as yet but mine are only small rises and they dont come into affect til april.ive put around 80 accounts up a pound.only another 120-140 to go.these are mainly cheaper compact estate properties ive been cleaning for years.

ive had a few moaning but i think im being fair on both them and me.ive got to start thinking about my financial future now.im 45 and probably only got another 20-25 years of working life left(if im lucky!)so i need to start saving for retirement so i have a good nest egg for my old age. :)

The customer doesn't care if your vat registered or not its the total cost that counts, if you up them by 20% and it works
it just shows you where under priced in the first place.
A better way would be to get the price up over a number of years with a vat date in mind therefore you arrive at the same
position without a large one off price increase.

??? You'd end up with an even larger price rise then. 20 percent of whatever the price is.

From the customers viewpoint it sounds crazy and from a customers viewpoint i also would get shot of my window cleaner.

Effectively your saying you earn alot of money splashing water on windows that now you have to become VAT registered and as a reward for earning alot from splashing water about, i have to charge you x amount to pay my VAT bill......hope you dont mind   ;D
PI## OFF would come to my mind
  ;D  ;D ;D

I have a look and see who's due to go up it might mean only 10- 15 jobs should go up but if i all of a sudden put em up by 20% even I think I'd lose some 😂,it took her about an hour to work out your earning 80k plus a year and thought sod that. Having an increase right across the board is bound to result in some cancellations especially 20% increases I try and keep it to 1 1/2-2% each time unless it's been years.

I know people mostly go VAT because they have acquired a lot of commercial but it's also achievable on domestics, what happens if you have a good mix of work and you lose loads of domestics, you could be VAT 1 minute and having to de register the next could you not.

If that what she thinks, she's stupid. Turn over as you know is different to earning.
Some will cancel but others will be happy knowing they deal with a growing successful business. Even if hes crap  ::)roll
