Be careful who you sub from.

Always carry out background checks, no matter who they are.

Subcontracting can be very profitable, especially if you are looking to grow your business. If you constantly get through your own work and have spare days each week/month, virtually all subcontracting work could be mentally classified as 'profit' as it is money you would not normally earned.

Use Experian to carry out credit checks to see if you need to impose credit terms upon them. This may result in you asking for a deposit upfront to secure your services and may help with your cash flow. We certainly do this with all new clients to check their bankability.

how much do Experian charge for this service - obviously a lot less than what you may loose but just starting to do subby work myself

I don't know because I don't deal with it directly, but I think it's £500.00 p/a.  I think we paid £250.00 though as they had a special offer on.  It's brilliant.  Give credit to the wrong company and you can easily lose those amounts.
