If it's that cold I don't think anyone with half a brain will be out working all the same.

The van seems a wee bit sluggish today says paddy...Oh yes it does rather but just might be something to do with a 1 ton ice burg we pickup up on route maybe?  ;D

I suppose you could strap them under the family people carrier (they don't look very big) and use the car instead of a second vehicle.

That's exactly what they are for, to catch the waste grey water, usually the drinking water is on the inside of the motorhome  to stop it freezing as already stated.
