Loads of these on demand cleaning sites around now. What about Homejoy.com, even with 30 million plus invested it failed.

You've got others like Hassle.com etc.  Basically all it is at the end of the day is a bunch of educated techies trying to be middle men to the cleaning sector.

Who in their right mind would give a large slice of the profits to some one sitting on their backside when you can pocket all the money yourself?

Get a decent website, study SEO and tell these people to take a hike or get off their ass and clean the windows themselves.  >:(

I believe that she might have something if she looked at her business model again and made some changes.

She could set this up as a proper business employing one window cleaner to start with, then adding more as demand increases.

No established self-employed window cleaner is going to sign up for this, so she would be more likely to attract job seekers who are not looking to go self-employed. She would have to be responsible for training, insurance, PAYE and everything else associated with being the boss, but if she were to do this properly, I believe that she could make it work.

Her website says she couldn't find a window cleaner when she moved house, so basically she wanted to pay next to nothing and have some mug do it the following morning.

We've all had those calls.

Exactly and if she had ever been involved with window cleaning she would know that its almost if not impossible to build a
decent business with customers like this.
What you would need to charge to offer a service like this would put most off them in the first place.

I once went to a window cleaning marketing learning day at Ionics.  Whatever else anyone may think of the company, I reckon that they are pretty decent at marketing - particularly to newer window cleaners.

One of the guys attending put it out there that the way forward might be window cleaning on demand, but charging about 3 the normal rate.  This plan was dismissed, including by myself.  However, afterward I thought that maybe it could work under certain conditions, the main ones being that a very high rate is charged, rather than being "within x days", it is carried out next time working that area and possibly the main one, that only a very small percentage of a cleaner's work is of that type.
Personally, I think it's too much hassle.

Yes. Received an email asking what area I worked and what system I used; also asked if I was the member of any 'federations'.  I emailed back my replies and asked what the procedure was for going forward.

No contact telephone number was provided in the email and I've noticed that none is shown on the website - that always makes me a little wary.

Waiting for a further reply

I wonder if the next bit is asking you for a "joining fee".
