On-demand window cleaning
« on: November 11, 2015, 10:11:48 pm »
Hey all:

http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/business/reading-born-mum-creates-uks-10425378

This has merits but the business model needs looking at.  I searched the cost for my house which was quoted at £18.00 .  Now I would charge £12.00 for a maintenance clean and at least  £20.00 for a one off/first clean.  Plus, how much would actually go to the windy who did the clean after they have taken their 'cut'?

Thoughts on a postcard?

I think it may be ok for newbies or those without much work. Will it work long term though as a viable business? A decent window cleaner is very rarely available within 24 hours to do a job - especially if it's just a one-off.

We'll see.

Great for the woman who's set this up, bad for window cleaners, totally underpriced for offering what is a bespoke service.

I would have said her cut will be 40 to 50%

Some will do it, just like the group on offers, each to their own

There are adverts all the time on Facebook offering this type of thing. Often cheap.  Its  nota sustainable business model for a full time business and not a threat whatsoever to traditional round based businesses. It would suit at stay at home mum looking for pin money or an unemployed person looking for beer money.

It would be a great business, her problem is getting enough suckers window cleaners to sign up under contract.

Would I be willing to drop everything, stop my regular cleaning work, to rush over the other side of town for a one off clean  for £7 to £10 🤔 - I think not

I assumed she was based in Reading and did the cleans herself, but I've just looked at her website and see how it works. Everyone one of those cleans on the other side of town will be a minger too.  ;D

Terrible business which is doomed to failure IMO. Too many reasons to be arsed to go into but I bet it's not there in 12-18 months.

Over the past few years these kind of sites are popping up more and more.where people set up sites and just get window cleaners to sign up to it for a subscription while they do very little to no work for it and the window cleaner does a load of  filthy first cleans and 1 offs at less than the normal price.

Nationwide, quality window cleaners and ladders free have all tried something similar in recent years not one has took off.

Her website says she couldn't find a window cleaner when she moved house, so basically she wanted to pay next to nothing and have some mug do it the following morning.

We've all had those calls.

Imagine all the filthy windows were people get them cleaned once a year or for special occasions!
Can't see that lasting, she'll start getting fed up doing 1st cleans all day, I know I would!

I wonder when she's gonna come on here for advice :
Topic- how to do first cleans faster??!!  ;D

Her website says...'an experienced and professional window cleaner will clean your windows'
That's me out then  ;D
"Thank you for calling: if you have a 1st floor flat, mid terraced house, lots of dogs, no parking, no side access, or no sense of humour, please press hold!

Also how are the window cleaners vetted?

By the time you factor in the cost of travel between jobs (time & diesel), equipment cost, insurance  etc.... you'll be earning less than the minimum wage... and this is before they take their cut...

Has anyone signed up yet???

considering she is a graduate of the google school ... what ever that is ................ maybe if she had bother to  google "window cleaner nameoftown"  she may not need to have gone to so much trouble

She also says on her website...
"Squeaky Clean is the leading platform that connects homeowners throughout the UK with professional and fully vetted window cleaners."

No...I think Google is the leading platform to find a professional window cleaner.
If you want to include 'vetted' then the leading platform is probably 'Check A Trade'.

I wonder if her Google Campus for Entrepreneurs taught her English grammar? Lovely error on her website 'Step 1'

I'm horrible really, aren't I.  ;D
