Take the car away and it's like a scene from the 1950's.

I hate gangmaster bosses who force their staff to do this; and feel really sorry for employees who have a choice of doing it or getting fired or looked down on (no pun intended).

If a self employed man does it - well he's just an idiot but only got himself to blame. Still needs shopping mind.
It's a game of three halves!

How come they don't have the HSE picture on their website's gallery page?

Perhaps he couldn't afford to run the ionics system, mind you only cleaning to parts per billion he probably felt he needed to buff them off by hand  ???

Also maybe he did not have a  long enough pole or if he did thought it was way too heavy and did not want to risk getting run over stood in the road to use it so went for the easy option. Obviously the RAMS went out of the window on that job too  ;D

The mind boggles why people risk their lives just to clean windows like that.

What's the point of manufacturing  ladders that reach that kind of height if it's such a Heinous crime using them?  I clean windows using many different access methods and have cleaned extremely hard access windows using various access methods .

Was anyone injured during the cleaning of this property?  The WC company weren't employing slaves with no voice, I suspect this wasn't the first clean using this method and perhaps they/all were happy with their work.

Of course personal welfare  of window cleaners, & public is paramount but don't just bow down and be a girl thingy  just because some like to blow the old H&S card and have very little experience of window cleaning other than bog standard houses, small scale commercial and employing none/few

Let's ban the use of ladders and add another manufacturing decline to the UK .

Wow - there speaks the voice of the 1970's

They may not be slaves but undue pressure from "the boss" leads workers to carry out dangerous tasks for "fear" of losing their job.

Simply that job can be done safely wfp - no need to be walking along a ledge or guttering like that

Forgive me if I've missed something, usually busy running a business  ( non sole trade :) ) was there any evidence of anyone forcing anyone to do anything?  My voice isn't 1970's my friend just my own and have always been a free thinker (don't follow the crowd)  personally we don't ladder work that high because it's not efficient, nothing to do with nanny state or lazy bar stewards thinking they know anything other than their own little space in the industry.

Steady on Einstein. It wasn't ladder work. He was walking along guttering.

Yes Simon I'm afraid you have missed something BIG TIME and that is the safety of staff ( or people in general )

Here's a link to another accident
http://www.brownsladders.co.uk/blog/another-horrific-ladder-statistic-from-the-hse/

But, hey, I'm sure in your world it's perfectly fine to work down mines with no safety equipment,, drive without seatbelts and play with asbestos.
