The window wasn't cleaned for 2 years. Now stop rubbing salt to the wound

half hour if bad,take a soft brush up with you to get cobwebs off and top layers of dry dirt then clean as normal,change water when finished

Was that just outsides or in and out?

Outs only about 20min once you've mastered the technique but it's very difficult unless you get someone with plenty of experience to show you how.  When you can run up and down a ladder like a rat in a drain, swab, wipe frames, squeegee then wipe sills in one flowing action the time will drop down dramatically - fully skilled you will be able to do 4 an hour.

Bad first cleans can take ages if the customers wants the frames & sills restored back to white rather than a quick wipe over so you should charge accordingly.

If the frames & sills are badly stained/filthy give em a quick spray & wipe with ubik maybe.
Magic sponges are also good to use aswell.

£35. But my second cleaning job took 2.5 hours. Same size house. Hopefully thats progress!

At least you are moving in the right direction I suppose but your not going to earn much that's for sure by taking so long and charging so little for your time.

Like I mentioned before charge accordingly if they want the plastics brought back to white as that is classed as restoration work not window cleaning.

yeah I know. Thanks for the feedback. With more practise ill be aiming for 1.5 hours.

4 hours?did you fit them as well as clean them?

Some guys are not cut out for this job.you could be one of em!

Even when I first started 22 yrs ago I could clean a 3 bed semi in 20 min. Mind you I never touched the frames in those days!

Don't worry about being slow at first. We all had to start somewhere and you will definitely speed up. My advice would be to continue at your own pace, and don't try to work too quickly, as it will lead to mistakes or a shoddy job.

Don't believe for a minute you are not cut out for this game. The first one may have taken you 4 hours, but you stuck at it and you are improving your speed already, so that's a real positive step.

I have been in the game for over 18 years now, and can still only do 2 an hour (OCD has a little to so with this), and being in my 50s, am not about to get any quicker! If anyone tells me that I'm not cut out for this because I am too slow, let me tell you that I have built my second window cleaning business (from scratch) in one of the most economically deprived areas in Ireland in the middle of a recession, and have done ok.

If I can do it, there's no reason that anyone with enough drive and determination can't do the same or better.
