Your original point was a good one too.  Although I first went into WFP about ten years ago with a reasonably decent van and a tank, my earlier beginnings on a ladder weren't quite so easy.  A clapped out car, a ladder borrowed from an out of trade plumber and totally clueless on pricing and methods.  If I were looking to scale down and semi-retire with a tight budget, something like that car would be an option for me.

Have had a 99 Nissan Primera saloon for the last nine and a half years. Up until two years ago it was the family car and work vehicle. Now it's my workhorse only. Kept it fully serviced minus one year when I forgot to get it done. Since 2007 been carrying 6-8 barrels plus freedom trolley and ladders for those odd windows I can't get to with a pole. It's still going strong having passed every MOT except one. Failed on brake pads! Have considered getting a small van but don't want to get rid of such a reliable old car. Still looks nice to boot.

Started 1997 - Mk 1 ford escort estate putting in more oil than petrol most expensive motor in the world. 

We must of looked a right state back then its a wonder we never had the old bill check us out, we even had a washing line rigged up for scrim to dry out! Not proud but it was the beginning..

i used to have a astra estate 10 25l drums of water trolley ladders trad gear done me fine for 2 years that car was hard as nails an a bit more i sold it with 176k on the clock probly still going now lol  used to get 48mpg, 50mpg on a run empty  luvly car ,ive killed 2 vans since selling my car scudo 1.9d and a toyota haice 2.5d boath bad buys cheep vans now got a 60 plate vivaro 2.0cdti lwb never looked back we all gota start some were

To be honest I don't think it matters what you use for transport as long as it does the job and you can earn a few bob who cares.
