i'm surprised nobody has said this yet.....

Could it be that this other company is preparing to move into your territory and by getting you to change your name they will be able to come in and take a lot of your unsuspecting customers?

Just a thought!

There are 2 other companies with the same name as ours operating in close proximity...one is an accountancy firm, and the other, I keep getting phone calls for...one a catering firm and the other cleans fur.

for some strange reason, the local directories have their listing, and my phone number attached...but hey, if anyone approached me, id tell them where to go..There is no legal requirment to register a name, only if youre a ltd company, and that said...let them take you to court. It will be their loss...They are only conning businesses out of money anyway. if youre concerned...just change the "A" font in apollo, or make the name look unique in all your material.

Have now spoken to my accountant, companies house and to a solicitor from the FSB, who all advised to write to the company involved complaining etc, but both basically saying there is a case for them to take me to court to force my company name change.

Because they are a ltd company and were there 1st with the name.

Was going to do the neccassary writing, but as Im very busy at the moment and cant really find the time, decided
to ring the National Business Register to sort it out, after a few choice words I was told that if I can prove that Ive been using the business name for 5 years + and write them a letter saying how it would be a pain etc to change names then that would be the end of the matter ???

This seems to be a very grey area with no one really seeming to know whether business names need to be or can be registered unless you go ltd, thankfully when I get round to writing my letter my fiasco is over.

Thanks for your replys on this and especially matt townsend for your very helpful e mail.
