Just wondering if anyone is using one of these , how do you find it? how did you wire it up ? any tips?

I thought the £240 for the powerUP addon on WCR was a bit much - but thats just silly money for a wfp reel,.. I'm sure the Cox & Hannay reels are brilliant, but WAY over engineered for what window cleaners need & crazy expensive as a result.

I tried my hand building a motorised reel a couple of years back but didn't have the equipment to machine some parts to finish it,.. I've bought some new toys since then & may revisit the idea. I reckon a motorised reel is a great bit of kit, but it shouldn't cost more than a mid size SLX pole in reality,..

How long would one of the 'petal' type ones last?
Ive got the hannay (non motorised). It cost me £330 (from memory) 12/13 years ago.
When you work it out at cost per year it aint too bad.
Ive had to buy 2 brakes and one inlet swivel in that time. £80odd in total.

In talks at the moment with Grippa & Spring about updating the controller i had made.

It's quite simple though. Just make sure the wire is rated to the reel.

The cox reel pulls a good, 32amp.

Need to find out what type of motor is on this reel you wanna buy and at first had issues with mine.

It's not a fair comparison though. I had a controller made, second battery, custom switch gear and never installed it.

I have the power up from Jordan king, love it, real help in your day to day work, i have no doubt the Hannay and Cox reels are better quality but for £200 ? you cant go wrong....imo

cheers mate, having e-mailed alex about them earlier  i'm on the understanding that i need 10amp rated wire with a 10 amp circuit breaker for extra safety in case the motor ever gets jammed. Is yours powered by a leisure battery or the vans 12v cigarette lighter.

10AMP rated wire? Are you sure? I would have thought that reel pulls 20 - 30 amps under load. My van now has 4 batteries. 2 leisure, 2 main.

I am testing out a controller within the next 7 - 10 days. I have decided to experiment with a different type of controller. If the controller is of no use for my needs and you buy a reel i may have a super duper controller going spare. Its just my setup is a little different from most. I have the floor cut out with rollers

£840 is not crazy expensive.  And how can it be "over engineered"?  It winds the reel in using an electric motor, that's about as simple as it's possible to get.

Anyone whose window cleaning and thinks £840 is a lot of cash (especially for something that will help you work better) needs to find another job.

I'm seriously considering getting one.  Slightly worried about the power consumption though.

True - quality comes at a price & the standard petal type reels rarely last more than 5 years,.. but these Hannay & Cox reels are made for high pressures and heavy hoses,.. there's room in the market for a lighter duty one made specifically for WFP.

I'm seriously going to try my hand  at coming up with something,.. its very simple mechanically & I've got the tools now - I just need the time & motivation to get it done!

These reels or similar was on eBay for £240.

Unless you have health problems I can't see any advantage to this, it takes all of 5 mins to wind in by hand, and those that think £800 is a good deal, I don't get it.

If you have £800 spare to buy a reel then you must have already upgraded all your poles to gardiners very best first as more effort would go into cleaning windows than winding a reel in.
