Back pain. New pole needed?
« on: March 09, 2015, 08:39:01 pm »
Hi. I'm currently using a CLX-27, and although I have no problem with the weight of the pole I have recently started to experience back pain. I have been using the pole for approx 6 months now. Is it worth me getting a new pole? SLX or maybe an Extreme? Would it make a big difference do you think? Thanks in advance.

I would be very surprised if changing the pole will make a difference to your back pain as it can be caused by many
different factors.
But if you can afford a lighter pole then why not go for it as it will make your working day easier.

There are ALOT of muscles in your back....
If its lower back you may find that (if you rinse off the glass) its your back trying to take the weight as you'll be leaning back. Lighter pole will help or try rinsing in the glass so you're not taking the weight

Upper back into neck, try extending your pole more so you're looking more foward than up...

Either that or man up  :P ;D

I agree with Sean, could be many reasons for back pain, bad posture and positioning whilst working or even just the repetitive strain being just two.
I'd go see a recommended osteopath if concerned or if it doesn't get any better, imo it would be money better spent than a new pole ( if it were one or the other, or if you can afford it do both ).

Cheers fellas. I've thought that it could be my posture that's causing the problem. It's something I'm going to try and improve. I do find myself over stretching quite a bit, maybe I've been doing myself damage without realising.
Or yeah, I could man up  :D

Do you walk with the pole when cleaning or do you stand still and just use your arms to do the work? Do you rinse on or off?

I've a CLX 27, but use an SLX 18 for the vast majority of my work.  It's worth getting one even if you haven't got a back problem.

Why make life harder than it needs to be?

The problem I find with these clx poles is they are whippy and bendy.

When they are bending and wobbling about you have to control the pole which slows you up and causes you to use up more energy.

Haven't used anything other than extremes since they come up.

It does make me laugh when you see cleaners with poles that must weigh 3kg when you could be using a 1kg SLX

Same with car mods. You touch the steering wheel and the tyres touch the road. All these idiots with 18/19's alloys ans fit tyre brands I'd never even heard off. Then moan when they skid off the road. Same with a steering wheel. I always used to upgrade it. As you are using it ever time you drive.

Cannot understand why anyone would use an CLX.

Personally I find my clx 27 light as a feather....I would imagine you don't
need a 27ft pole all of the time...so why not just remove some sections they
are removable and reduce the already small amount of weight.

Ive used a friends SLX for a day not long back and there was very little difference
between his pole and my clx vertically apart from on the horizontal where there was
a marked difference....I don't use my pole horizontal enough to need an SLx ;D

My back goes from time to time with working and kids etc .

I now spend £35 every 3 or 4 weeks on my back at a skeletal expert and it's awesome.

Prevention is better than when it goes big time

Last year I did a week with a clx as an experiment. After Thursday I was aching. An extreme allows me todo a GOOD week. Week in. Week out.

I only use CLX. I can tell you why i don't use an SLX.....i just don't think its worth the extra money. I find the CLX 27 which i use as an everyday pole with an extreme brush very light.

I don't understand how people use 18 foot poles. I like to stand back as far as is  practically possible. Each to their own i suppose.

My back used to go all the time. It was the weight of my wallet. Better now my customers pay online.

Taking a load out and sending it to Gardiners seems to help from time to time too.

Fair enough. I can't achieve what I achieve without using extreme poles. I suffer with a bad back due to a fall off a roof. So I have my excuses  ;D

some all round physical strengthening ;D

I use the standard medium all round brush from gardiners.
I have only ever rinsed off as thought that would achieve the best results.
Think im gonna try the rinse on method for any awkward windows, maybe that'll take away some of the strain. Cheers
