AQUATAP HORROR
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:00:45 pm »
I seem to be the only one who is having these problems with these taps, its absolutely doing my head in, I have bough three of these taps in the last two weeks , I have had two other ones for quite a while and they were both fine, but now 2 out of the three have stopped working what happens is all of a sudden the will start not turning off properly then they will not turn on at all, I cant get the pins out of one of them wither with mole grips even as the are just slipping off, wcw kindly replaced on of them and now today the other just went the same way WHAT A JOKE , im sure I could send them in but then I have to wait for replacements NEVER AGAIN at least with an aqudapter I can replace a spring there and then quickly I feel like a have been robbed

I use o clip pliers to pull out the pin. Hard to understand why your having this problem though, iv been using aquatap since the day it came out, currently on my second one and iv never experienced it. Somedays it feels a little stiff, others it feels loose but always does its job.

This is only the mk1 aquatap so there will always be small problems like there was with the aquadaptor. Peter mentioned a while ago that mk2 aquatap is vastly improved but still some way from full production.

Micheal if you contact Peter Fogwill directly rather then wcw I'm sure he will be more then happy to have a look at this for you.

Buy yourself a really good set of mole grips not Chinese copies or rubbish like ronson or Amtech, them they will grip the pin and it will pull out, you only need to re grease the o rings - job takes half the time it takes to replace the often breaking aquadaptor spring ( just for Duncan that  :-* )

Michael send me your address and I will get a replacement off to you today. Once you get it send the other back as I wouldn't mind seeing what's went wrong.

hi thanks peter, window cleaning warehouse were kind enough to do that for me with the other one as well, so im more than happy with that service,

to give you a heads up, what happens first from when I put one one (this has happened to three of them (but one of these lasted about 6 months before that hapend which Im happy with)

I use Chinese pumps running flat out (no flow control) slx and phoenix poles normal leisure battery rectus 21 fittings. and use vision in the tank

1. I put them on and there are always nice and lose and tighten up to the correct level over the next couple of days.
(this is the honeymoon period  when they work like this I truly believe there is on better device out there)
2. after a while they will not turn fully off and a small amount of flow is still coming out when turning off.
3. then sometimes they will just not let the flow turn on, but if I take the input hose off and blow the water through, it will work again for a little while until eventually it does this all the time.
4.before I have managed to take the pins out and pull it apart but everything looks pretty normal the bottom ceramic plate sometimes is loose but I but it back on its seat, and the top ceramic disc is siliconed in correctly and held inplace inline with the nipples (I siliconed one back in place before a long time ago)
the only thing that I don't understand and is possibly what is my problem is the top ceramic disc with the spring on is either up or down and im not sure exactly which position its meant to be in?
with this one though I cant get the pin out (I noticed this one only has one pin if that makes a difference) the mole grips slip off of it) I have actually ordered some long nosed ones, but if you are going to send me the tap ill send back this one so you can have a look for I cant see whats wrong with them.

if you blow through it it always works turns on and off (cuts the air off) , but put it on the pole under the pressure of the water from the pump and it stops working after a couple of goes? I just cant get my head round it

my address is

9 Charnwood Gardens
Sheriffs Hill
Gateshead
Tyne and Wear
ne9 5sb

thanks very much for a great service

will you end your return address with the tap ? thanks very much

I just read above about greasing the o rings, surly it would just be stiff if they needed greasing and still work ?

I can see whats wrong I have just opened up my other one which isn't broken and when its not turning back on I took the barbed bottom connector off, whats happening is the bottom ceramic plate is lifting up off of its seat and sticking to the other ceramic plate so they are both turning together? what could allow the ceramic plate to list up ?

SORTED ! :-)

just spoke to peter on the phone, and what was wrong is I have the hoses the wrong way round the pole hose goes into the top barbed connector  and the brush hose geos into the bottom, and after a while the pressure was knocking the bottom ceramic plate up a couple of mil,

changed the hoses over and there are no more problems they work better than ever !

thanks peter, I cant belive I have had the hoses the wrong way round all this time

Easy mistake to make Michael especially when you never had any instructions. >:(

This problem will only be noticeable on a high pressure.
Anyone lubricating the O rings please don't use Vaseline instead use a silicon grease.

Michael,

Did your Aquatap(s) come on a blue backed card packaging?

thanks steven, really nice phoenix pole by the way,

if I ever need to glue clamps to the pole, can I just do this with epoxy resin glue ?

Any mole grips or pliers should do as long as they are not long nosed as you can't the pressure on the tips.  Put the pins into the middle position, grip the pins rotating them back and fourth slightly as you pull.  Once you get the hang of it then its easy.

Tosh we could all communicate through email or phone, but then we would have no need for a forum. Someone else might be interested in taking the pins out.

Yes, Peter - you certainly like to state the obvious - but there was no indication of what Michael was on about in that post.

He says quite clearly what he wants and that is for me to recommend pliers or mole grips to remove the pins, as he is having difficulty remove some.  Anyone reading it with the same problem won't have to email or phone me they just simply read the post. Isn't that what forums are for?
