Think my controller has died
« on: February 02, 2015, 06:37:40 pm »
Last week or so when ive gone back to van to put reel / pole away after cleaning a house theres been a very very slight wiring burning smell ... checked all connections, felt pump to see if hot as suspected that was on its way out but seemed ok ... controller wasn't hot ... in fact all seemed ok ?

Tonight got home and opened side door to turn controller off and controller was off already ?? tried turning it back on but nowt.

Fortunately its a 2 man system so still got other pump and controlled wired up ... can controllers just fizzle out and die as looks like that's what was smelling though it wasn't getting hot ?

sounds like you have fried it at some point putting positive and negative the wrong way round, i did this and it worked for a few weeks but slowly and slowly day by day got worse with less power hitting pump and controlls stopping working untill controller no longer could control the pump. brown bread!!
just buy a new 1 mate. only cheap.

Hi Ian

The burning smell is not good something has shorted either on the controller PCB, Cable or connector.
Which controller is you have and what is its age?

The pump getting hot may just be a sign of slightly worn motor brushes. Or the pump may be running quite hard depending on the flow rates and pressure in the system.
Again again age can be a factor.

Hi Ian ..... its at least 5 or 6 years old ... came from cleaning warehouse originally was in van when I bought the van/system ... its the bright orange front on a grey box generic type controller ...

Its got a build in split relay which thankfully is still charging leisure battery as other controller Im now using is non split relay.

Was going to change one of my pumps to a vyair high output so will do that with a new controller.

You have an older V6 charger which we have not produced for at least 5 years. They can last a good time.

The newer V11 has a few changes compared to the V6, Running a higher flow pump is no problem for the controls,

Thrown the flow controller in the bin and for a few quid buy a voltage regulator for 12v DC motors on Ebay.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

i must say i have made 2 flow controllers, each one cost £12 and been using them 6 days a week for the last 12 months without any problems what so ever.
