Show us your tranny (connect)!
« on: January 31, 2015, 01:13:20 pm »
I've taken a move to the dark side and bought a van  :-\

It's a T230 transit connect, I've got some ideas about how I'd like to set it up but would appreciate some pictures from anyone with a connect.

I'll be putting a 2 man 500l set up in there, I'm after clever ideas regarding reel mounting / hose delivery.

Thanks.

For the money and quality I would look at at a custom tank from Stephen.

Could really make it special in a nice Lilttle connect :)

I've got the tanks already. 2x lay flat 250s, IMO the lower you've got the tanks the better. It keeps the center of gravity low and spreads the load better. I'll be putting a floor over the top of it.

Yeah that's what I meant by custom tank. Shaped to the floor.

Sounds like you have an idea for it anyway.

My route would be a false floor over it. Then a rear bulk head. Van doors can be left open. Hose reels as high as possible through guides.

Darran has a setup like it. (Smudger)

nah there will be loads of room behind them 250 tanks , nice floor plate two good ball bearing reals both going out the back doors, ive always found these to be good vans , with someone like yourself who will maintain them properly you will enjoy having it im sure

I was thinking about fitting one at the back door, one at the side door. Maybe roof mounted. Not sure though.

We've spent years improving the land rover design but I'm not happy with the new engines and with production stopping this year I'll need to change it eventually, my mate has a connect, seems like a good van. I got this one reasonably cheap so I can always sell it on for a profit if it's crap.

Depends what you carry. I would never clean with my doors open. If you carry the bear minimum then great crack on.

Should be fine with doors open if there's nothing to steal... Travel light!

Nice setup. What do you have on the floor, is it ply or x-line or summat?

It's thick ply, waterproofed underneath and then painted with the grey waterproof paint, I'm planning on getting the new transit connect within 2 years, setting myself a goal. But the vans are fantastic mate, you won't regret it, not white as fun as defender though!

I bought a big transit too but prefer the connect. Bit tight on the payload but should be OK.

I think I might either fiberglass or x-line the floor. Thanks for the link to your video, some clever idea s on there. How well does the solar panel work?

Thanks, it's 8watt so it helps msintain the battery, it works well in the summer, my voltage doesn't drop much in a week! In the winter it's a bit pants, but helps a tad in sunny days, it's only £40 so worth it imo
