pressure switch cutting out constantly
« on: December 12, 2014, 06:04:18 pm »
Had to change the pressure switch on my pump as it died on me, when I put the new one in and connected everything up, the pressure switch keeps cutting out approx twice a second and its constant. I tried the pressure switch from my other pump (which works fine) and it done the same thing.
I also tried the other pump through the hose, reel pole etc that the original pump was going through and it worked fine.
Have I put the pump back together wrong or something?
The pump is approx. 2-3 months old

Have you tried wiring the pump directly to the battery terminals and bypassing the controller?

Yeah it works fine until I connect the section of hose that go's from the pump, into the reel then it starts stuttering away.
If I disconnect the hose from the reel again the water flows smoothly

Unravel your hose reel hose, you may have a kink

Check connectors for blockages...

the kink if any could be inside the pole.

The thing is, when I run the other pump through the same reel and hose it works fine so it must be something to do with the pump. Its as if I have altered something and the switchis triggering early than it should be.
I have just ran it through the controller and it is kicking in every 3-5 secs as opposed to twice a second if this helps diagnose the problem

Have you adjusted the hexagonal nut at the bottom of the switch?  If not attach the pump to the reel and the reel to your pole hose and switch on.

Then adjust the hexy nut till it runs smoothly, yet stops the pump straight away when you dead end the pole hose.

I don't know, but the shurflo definitely has one.

And it's not really a 'hexy nut', it's the type of  'nut' that you'd use an allen key to adjust.  I don't know it's proper name; just to avoid any confusion.

Is the nut on the actual switch?

It's where the arrow is pointing:

Connect your pump to the reel, and your reel to your pole, turn on so the water is flowing and adjust this grub screw (thank you Andy M) till the pump runs nicely, and when you dead end the water flow, the pump stops pumping, straight away.

Just out of interest, what are you using to control your water flow, if indeed you're using anything at all?
