No offence H20 but you are on here what seems like every other week with a van problem.
Take my advice as I am talking from experience.
The one you have is becoming a money pit and will be costing you not only in getting it fixed but more importantly it's affecting your work.
Do yourself a favour and buy a different and more reliable van.
I have just said im not in a position to replace the van... Its not even hit 100k miles yet its hardly on its last legs.
I have reciepts adding upto £1800 spent under 15k miles ago.
Its had loads done to it i would be a fool to get another one

Mine died at 93k bud.
It may seem like admitting defeat but I (and a lot if other shiners I'd imagine) have been in your position.
The feeling of dread laying in bed in the morning wondering if it's gonna start or not are much worse than even getting a van on tick.
Really & truly-get rid. Part x with a dealer for a forecourt pre-reg-you'll be looking at less than £50 a week.
Target to get that canvassing in the time you've now got as you're not waiting at the garage all the time

Vans are built to last longer than 92 thousand miles!!!!

The problem the other week was just a bearing from a belt.... And then 2 new tyres was just wear and tear.

My business is just under 4 years old and i haven't even had this van 2 years yet!
Its got full service history, drives absoloutly mint and i never wake up on a morning thinking "will it start"

I only do 12 thousand miles a year so its worth keeping another year i just want to know if anyone has had the same problems.

They are but I don't think they're designed to be fully loaded every day (IMO) which yours probably is?
I don't do many more miles than you these days.
But the peace if mind is priceless.

Plenty of vans that died with less mileage than that, I agree with pole king

Our vans get hammered, short runs, stop start 30 plus times a day, fully loaded, all street work  hard on steering, bearing etc...

No lovely 100 + mile motorway runs...

Vans are designed to carry weight! This van was owned by a kitchen fitter previously so probs never did a hard days graft until i got it.
And even now i only have a 400L tank which i rarely full up fully.

You have advised get new vans etc because its piece of mind and i understand that but think back to when you were at the early stages of your business its not easy to justify

My vivaro has 80k on it now (57 plate) and want to get rid soon before things start going wrong and cost me money.
Been good as gold so far, well looked after and never missed a beat or cost me anything over than servicing and tyres.
But how long before it starts to be a money pit.
A new van does cost a lot but it can be deducted against tax and for me peace of mind that it will start and run daily is worth far more than the cost.

The battery could have been to low, and possibly the alternator is not giving out the required charge.

Stating the obvious, but every day it's causing you problems, it's impacting on your ability to work and therefore it's a liability rather than an asset.

You have two choices: Get someone who knows what they are doing to investigate what's wrong with it and get it sorted or replace it.

Best wishes,
John

Its not everyday! the van drives and starts first time everytime except today... Last week it was tax and new tyres then the week before a bearing.

Btw im so embarresed... The AA came out inspected and said because the diesel was below quarter of a tank and parked on a bank with the engine facing upwards, the diesel has ran to the back of the tank causing a air lock...
So he towed me to a flat bit of road and used some easy start and it fired up straight away ;D i probs should not be telling you lot this... Now i expect a grilling

Id keep hold of it too. You have spent a lot on that van! Call the aa out and see what they say! Prob something sime and not to worry about, as you say it should have plenty of life left in her.
My van for example has done 235k its a 2004 peugeot expert hdi and although i have the money in the bank to buy a new 1 i think why should i untill it dies! 3 years i have ragged the hell out of it not caring if it blows up or not but it still goes and goes and passes every mot without fail so will keep her till she goes bang.
93k is nothing for a van so just get it fixed mate.

your right! Were not millionaires in this industry what ever happened to 200k+ miles on a van haha.
Turns out it was an airlock in the fuel system due to low fuel and parking on a bank... Highly embarrassing

firstly, dont spray easy start, that stuff is like heroin for vehicles, you use that come winter you will be using it all the time.

right mate hopefully this will help a little, theres plenty of life left in a van of that mileage to say other ways is not right, you will by another van with new and different problems.

if the van isnt starting, it isnt getting air fuel or power

rule out the fuel by jump starting it from your dads car, if the battery is really knackered it may nit jump from the car, so if this happens take the battery off charge it and then go to start again.
even though it was trying to start, the battery may not have had enough power in it to start the vehicle (even though it sounds like it did)
if your trying to start it now and the battery seems to have charged fine and it is not starting still but the battery sounds fine and not instantly flattening whilst trying to start its something else.

forget glow plugs and starter motor, you would hear the motor and glow plugs shouldnt be a problem in this weather.

if its turning over fine but not starting look for anything on the dash that has a padlock or lock related symbol on it, this light should go out when you turn the ignition, if it is not going out you imobiliser is not going off, if this is the case its a dealership fix about £500 they normally replace ecu

if you get it started something has drained the battery beyond the ability to start the car, its possible that you have just left something on (cd player etc) however you should check the battery voltage with a multimeter and then again with the car running, make sure the voltage goes up after starting the car to see the battery is taking charge, halfords and garages will check the battery is taking charge for free.

if the battery isnt charging properly or holding charge you will know you need a new battery, halfords will also tell you the health of the battery

if the battery seems to be ok but is not charging when the van is running, you need to look at the alternator, first check the belt is in good repair, then check the cable (larger one) is connected properly to the body of the altinator and not snapped off, take of the terminal (after disconeccting the battery) clean it up and test again with the van running.

if the battery is still not charging you need an alternator.  alternators will be about 150 for the part and should take under and hour to fit..

i hope this is helpfull to you mate
