Tds 35 AGAIN!!!!!
« on: June 07, 2014, 03:36:10 pm »
so if you read my post a few weeks ago my TDS shot up from 2 to 40 in my 1000L tank.  I cleaned it and refilled it, which took 48 hours.

So I have been working away fine all week, checking the TDS going in and even checked it yesteryear and it was 5 or so.

then we had the storm today and the tank is FULL to the top and the TDS is 35?????

I threw some onto my windows and the spots where everywhere.  Well ped.

I tested the water going in and the tank so the meter is fine.

What I assume is going on is that the green bacteria that normally grows on the top inside of the tank is killing the TDS.  since I dont normally fill up my tank to the TOP this is normally not a issue.

Anyway I have poured a whole bottle of bleach in and will let it soak overnight and clean it tomorrow and start again.

Am I the only one that has had this issue?

Give it a good rinse out after 24 hours with bleach and you will be fine.

Is it sitting out in the sun? Or in a garage?

If you've got the space, get one of those tin sheds. Great, cheap, last a life time and will keep your water pure for longer.

I'm lost here - how can a storm affect your tds? Are you collecting rainwater too?

Have you tried putting your good water into a different container to see results the same?

I haven't the foggiest on how it got so high all of a sudden,  its painted black.

I have a few ideas how it got so high but not sure.  perhaps the flowers from the tree fell in there and contaminated it as I can see loads of small flowers half the size of your little finger nail.

Another theory is that I don't normally fill it up to the top but rather to about 900L and there was a lot of GREEN on the top 100L layer but the other night I let it fill to the top and it covered the green, this could have contaminated it.

I really don't know,  I just bleached it for the night and it was sparkling white.  Gave it a good rinse and started filling it up again.

An open top tank?
Stick a lid on it, your problems will be solved.
