Dazmond and other extreme 25 every day users
« on: June 05, 2014, 07:05:40 am »
New pole time soon and at the moment im into beating my daily personal bests ££ wise but feel it the next day by being knackered  :( .. so instead of going for my normal choice of a slx22 with supalite brush thinking do I spend the extra and go for the extreme 25 with extreme brush ?

I don't think it will give me any extra houses a day but will help the next day by not being worn out from the day before ... if that makes sense.

So few questions .........

1 Will the extreme 25 stand up to day to day hard use ?

2 My current poles and previous poles are bought, used daily and never cleaned or stripped just thrown in back of van until next day. does the extreme need a lot of looking after ?

3 No offence to Alex but does the extreme brush actually do the job as looks so puny and cant believe its very effective ?

thanks  :)

Yes they are up to every day use. Give it a clean now and again and yes the extreme brushes are puny but they still seem to work ok most of the time. You can always put a Superlight flocked on the end for first cleans.

For about a year and then sections may spin

2 My current poles and previous poles are bought, used daily and never cleaned or stripped just thrown in back of van until next day. does the extreme need a lot of looking after ? Flush out once a week and plenty of lube. Replace stop tape monthly minimum

3 No offence to Alex but does the extreme brush actually do the job as looks so puny and cant believe its very effective ? On 4/5/6 weekly jobs its more than enough. Couple that with the super scraper and you are laughinh

thanks  :)

I PRE ORDERED my first extreme so gives you an idea of how long i have been using them. The smart clamps has made a huge difference. IF you can be bothered you can strip the pole down and lacquer its 2,3,4,6..............times a year. I did this with one of my extremes and after a year it looks like new and doesnt spin. Just needed upgraded clamps

mines coming up to 12 months use and its knackered!!(only joking!).its worn down in the usual places.top 2 sections but apart from that its a great pole.

they do need flushing out every week and re taping from time to time.im doing mine today while im off.

its much lighter that the 22 SLX and more rigid which helps a lot on g/f/s,conny roofs, solar panels,velux,3 storey and higher and of course awkward windows above extensions/connys.

on regular monthly work an extreme hybrid or medium mixed brush makes this pole absolutely a breeze to use.you ll notice a big difference in how you feel after a long day poling.

my only gripe with this pole is that i think they should have a "woven in" indicator band instead of tape as after a while it comes off and you have to re tape.no matter what tape i use it tends to come off after a few weeks.

its robust for a lighter than light pole but does need a bit more care and attention for example closing upper windows.ive never snapped a section but theres guys out there that have.

i also use a SL standard brush and sill brushes with these poles for some work no problem.still lighter than the slx.

also if you buy the 25 the extra length defo comes in handy.

id say buy one ian.the thing is once you do you ll never go back to the slx as itll seem like its made of lead!strange i know!! ;D

Mines 3 years old, I have replaced the clamps to the smart clamps and also replaced the first 2 sections about 10 months ago.  I reckon that the xtreme takes less looking after than the slx due to its construction but a good wipe don every now and then will make it easier to use anyway.  With cf gooseneck and xtreme brush you should get more work done in a day without even trying and not be as tired.

I will never go back to an SLX it's the xtreme for me now regardless of the cost.

Simon.

I've been using the extreme 25 for about 8 weeks now and it's very good indeed. My old SLX22 is now a backup pole.
It really comes into its own when you're cleaning difficult windows above connies etc at an angle. It really makes a big difference from the old 22. It's so light that it feels quite fragile but it seems to be coping ok. The extra 3 foot is really helpful too. I've also been experimenting with brushes etc, trying to find the lightest setup. (i've got tennis elbows!).
I am a big fan of the medium radius sill brush and it's my weapon of choice but decided to try the extreme hybrid medium brush. It's pretty good. It scrubs ok, is amazingly light and actually cleans the sills ok. It lacks the overall flexibility of the sill brush but is probably better on the glass. I even used it on a first clean the other day and it held its own.
Also i'm using an Aqua tap; very light, needs to be set up correctly and takes a bit of getting used to but it's the best alternative i've found and I have tried nearly everything.

I used to think the same but I went back to a slx as I think its a better all round pole....I was going through extensions like the clappers either wearing down or snapping...dont get me wrong they are a good pole if you want lightness and rigidity but mine is just set up with extensions for high stuff as thats where the extreme is handy.

Wow, do you mean you had to replace sections of the xtreme due to snapping?  Me and my misses have only ever snapped 2 sections in 8 years wfp.  Once was a manufacturing fault, sorted out by supplier and the other was on my wifes 3 year old xtreme on Monday as she was trying to close a window that wouldn't budge.  We just replaced the offending section, but on a well used 3 year old pole I can't complain.
