What do you think is the best buy for our trade? years 2009-2011

Why just those 3 choices?. What wrong with the nissan primastar, which is the same as the vivaro and trafic anyway?.
And what about the citroen relay, fiat ducato, and peugeot boxer?, not to mention those 3's little brothers, the dispatch, scudo and expert, all of which can be had with a 1200kg payload. You dont mention any particulars, such as (gulp) tank size, whether it is a 1 or 2 person setup, whether you are looking for a swb or lwb, etc.

Because they're the three vans I have narrowed down my search to.   I am just looking to see what issues if any, people have had with them, or which vans of the three people rate if they've experienced any of them. (not particularly connected to set up but more to reliability and ease to maintain)

I have kept Nissan and Fiat out of my list because of my own issues with these makes through friends comments whist conducting my own research.  Hope this helps explain a bit more. Don't get me wrong, I am not putting down other makes, I'm sure they're  fine.  But I have to narrow my final search down to three.   Anyway, which van do you rate out of all the ones you have mentioned Simon?

I have no direct experience, through ownership, of any of your choices. However, the vivaro and its close cousins the trafic and primastar, are essentially the same van, so any problems affecting one, is also going to affect the others. And they certainly gained a reputation for gearbox problems!. But, there are owners on here who will tell you the gearbox issues will all have been sorted by the '09-'10 models you are thinking about. Personally i dont think that any van is that much better than any other. The main problem is finding one that has been looked after and driven sensibly. Going by owners reviews, the clear winner for reliability is the toyota hi-ace, but that is not on your shortlist.

As for me, if i was looking for a transit sized van, i would search out a swb iveco daily. I used to have one and loved it. Built like a tank, nice high driving position, very comfy seats, fantastic heating and ventilation, and a london taxi rivaling turning circle. Much as i would love another, it really would be overkill for me, as i just dont need such a heavy duty van. When i come to replace my transit connect, it will probably be with a 1200kg version of a dispatch/scudo/expert with the 2.0 engine.

I have had the Trafic and it's bigger brother the Master.. Both were mechanically crap... (Engines, gearbox, door hinge(!!)) Not man enough for the weight we carry.. Both very rust proof though, and the trafic when working was very comfortable to drive.. I have now run a Transit mk7 mwb low roof  '09 plate for two years (50k) and touch wood, has been as good as gold.. BUT, the rust spots that are showing are a constant bugbear..!

Looking to change this year and will only be considering the new shape Transit..

Changed my mind, don't buy Vauxhall the customer service is terrible and the van spend lots of time off the road in the garage, .Check warranty as that's a scam as its not as you would think, interior only covered 12 months, suspension 30,000 miles, no way is it 3 years 100,000 miles all singing and dancing, Vauxhall are pooh.I have 12 plate sportive, its starting to fall apart, 16k on clock.

A Transit is the way forward.  Vivaro not a chance.  Too many bad stories.

You won't go wrong with a transit.

Vivaros and the like are cheap and nasty.

I had a demo in a new vivaro and it felt so cheap. I appreciate it's an old model now but there's something they can do about it.

Fords have always been reliable for me but I coulnt afford a decent connect so I bought a combo.

67,000 miles and the engine is dead. Chain snapped. 2k to fix.

So no way I will replace the combo with another vauxhall.

Not only that every window cleaner seems to have a vivaro shape lol

If you're really lucky you'll find one - 100,000 mile 5 year transferable warranty.

The transit looks dated but a solid work horse (Custom is too new and expensive)

Customs are popping up for like 12k - 14K with low miles!!!

vivario for me had it for just over 4 1/2years when it had 54 k on the clock now just over 74 k

no problems except for when I drove though a big puddle(lake) my thought.
