I have recently bought a small van for my colleague. Small van with a Brodex 250 litre tank fitted. I have put four 25 litre barrels in to keep him going longer but there is not much room above the tank when tipping the barrels.
Anyone got any ideas how to pump water from a barrel into the tank? Trying to make things a bit easier for him ( without changing the tank ).

Bilge pump probably won't work because you couldn't fit it into the barrel.

Mine does, normal "car wash barrels"

Have you a link to the one you use? I can't see one that will fit through the neck of the barrels.

Just as well change the tank, it would be cheaper in the long run, and a lot less hassle!!

Have you a link to the one you use? I can't see one that will fit through the neck of the barrels.

I haven't I'm affriad. I will check tonight if we still have the packing. As we replaced one last week. Died after 3 years! Being used every day lol

It would still take about 5 minutes to pour the barrel out though.

That's a lot of waiting around throughout the day.

Put a water butt tap (plastic but 3/4" size not half inch) in the screw on lid of the 25L drum.

Lift drum onto it's side with the tap over the tank hole and open tap.

When drum getting empty remove lid with tap and let it flow out the hole; put lid with tap on next full barrel in readiness; take the lid off the next full barrel and put it on the empty drum.

Easy peasy and quicker than a pump!

Or make a "spider". You just use your existing pump which you have already.

Put four 25L barrels (or two or three) next to each other with a bungee cord or two round them all.

Get four lengths of pump hose and put through pre-drilled holes (tight fit) in the 25L drum lids. Connect two hoses to a T piece. Connect the other two hoses to a second T piece. Connect the two T pieces to a third T piece. Connect that T piece to your pump-to-tank hose with yet another T piece.

Make sure this "spider" assembly can be switched in or out with a tap.

By switching in the spider you can draw equally from the four drums (or three or two) and you a have an improvised 100L reserve tank. (or 75L or 50L)

You need:

A couple of bungees
4 x 25L drums
Several metres of pump hose
4 x T pieces
1 tap. (plus one if you do not already have one between your tank and pump.)

To operate: turn off the tap between pump and main tank (positioned between main tank and T piece to spider) - open tap to spider. Wash windows with extra 100L water!
