invoice over due
« on: March 27, 2014, 10:02:01 am »
Got a cleaning company I did a builders clean for
7 weeks ago,  have a 30 day invoice so I've
Been chasing this for near 3 weeks,

No reply from emails, reminder, phone calls,
Voice mails ...

How long would you give them before you send
A Higgins letter?

I've not had to use them before as I normally
Just write bad debt off but this ain't for pennies!

Cheers
Colin

This is why i stick to residential properties.

Less hassle, and less money to be out of pocket if you cant get them to pay up!.

The no reply bit is a bit suss...

But 7 weeks is normal I'm still waiting on a four figure invoice from January.
90 days isn't unusual.

Your payment terms aren't theirs...

I would not give any grace time if the invoice says 30 days then that`s what it is. I have change all my invoices to due on presentation. And a penalty if over time so if I do need to to take if further it starts at day one. Folks think you are a bank its common practice for financial advisers to push creditors as they are the cheapest form of credit.

Builders are notoriously bad payers. You gave them 30 days and have chased. If you haven't sent a final 'gimme the money within 7 days' do that then straight to debt company to chase. As poleking says 90 days are fairly standard with them so even a letter from debt collection company might not prise the money out of them.  Good luck.

While I agree with all the above to a degree.
To some degree, you just need to suck it up if you want to keep cleaning for them.
One off-no problem, debt letter, court action, debt collectors etc etc.
But if you want to keep working for them then that may stop you getting any further work.
In business you'll always have a 'rolling debt' IME.
The bigger the jobs you do-the bigger the debt overall.

I find that most people are quick to mention negatives like you have in starting this post but few praise the quick payers cause it's what we expect.
The majority of lads on here (certainly ones I know) have the rolling debt but sooner or later it does roll in.
In the grand scheme-very few companies will screw you over.
The ones that will-You'd've probably had a guy feeling they would anyway.

Try not to worry. It'll come in, eventually.
And next time you do the job, if there is a next time, just realise that they ain't gonna pay straight away.

And finally-someone I know sends invoices like so:

(For a £100 job)

Invoice due:      £110.00

If payment received before xx/xx/xxxx (14 days) reduced price of £100 due.

I've not done it, but it works for him.

All the best.

Same as anything north of Watford being 'up north' to a Londoner.
