RAM tracking

I had trackers installed in 2 of my vans a few weeks ago.
GARBAGE!
Emailed them tonight to tell them to come and take them out and give me a full refund.
Every week since they went in I have had to contact them because one or the other is not working.
Anyone else used them and had trouble?

I got to speak to the boss today who told me the reason for my problems.
They have recently changed units and they are having problems with the "firmware" on them (whatever that is)  ::)roll
Anyway he offed to replace my units with a different model although he feels after this weekend when they do a "firmware" update the problem will be solved so I said I will give him the benefit and wait to see if it does.
He has agreed to give me more frequent position updates at no extra cost and if the problem is no better I also get the equipment upgrade.
So we will have to see how it goes.

If you have the time pester pester pester. I have just had quadband units installed. Due to my location the Vodafone ones I got to start with were problematic (something I expected to be honest). The new quadband ones use 4 networks and are excellent.

The Vodafone ones lost signal 10% of the time. When the vehicle came back into signal all the data where it had been while out of signal was there. The new ones lose signal about 1% of the time or less. We cover a large rural area.

RAM's customer service is good. The system works well (it does for us anyway), I would have no problem recommending RAM to anyone.

I trailed three systems before signing up to RAM. All had their advantages and disadvantages. RAM suited us best.

I would not write them off, but I would wait to see if they sort this issue out.

When the units work ok they are good and I find it very useful, I have not noticed much of an improvement in fuel usage but to be fair to my lads i dont think any of them took advantage anyway.
The biggest advantage is from a logistic point of view.

Apart from the downtime issue my only real issue is with how often the data is sent back.
If your running a haulage company the pre set package of sending a signal at every "event" or every 1000 yds is great, but for us its not enough. if you have a van moving at slow speeds in built up areas you miss a lot of the route.
This can be altered though, They only allow a certain amount of uploads per month from the unit, a long distance truck will send thousands but I cant see us getting anywhere near, so my advice is to give it a couple of months then talk to them about adjusting it to suit your needs.
