hi is the process easy for a bank to find if a cheque has been cashed for a date end november 2013

i had a customer who said she sent a cheque back then and won't provide me with a full cheque number so i can double check my end,i told her to check her end and she said the bank would take 3 days to do this.
she would re issue another 1 with another invoice,I've sent this person about 15 reminders since september and nearly thought sod it and let it go but in the last few days i have pestered them for another 1 so my books tally up for accountant.

the person has really annoyed me and i won't be working for this company ever again.

The fact that she won't give you a cheque number makes me suspicious she is a big fat liar. Why wouldn't she?

How much is it for? If it is enough and local go round and make a "quiet stink". (ie stand there until you get paid).

hiya

not a massive amount,she was a friend of my x so i didn't want to fall out with her and kept it as nice as possible.she called me 3 weeks ago to ask me to do her windows again to which i replied sorry i can't as i have to much work on.
30 mins later she asked if i was payed for last clean via text message which i replied no.
still no cheque in post so i chased it up with the determination to get it.she got all stroppy and told me to stop asking for it which really annoyed me as its been bloody 6 months.

it just seems like I'm getting conned by more and more customers nowadays.i try not to take it personal but sometimes it really annoys me with the cheek of some people.

A friend of your X. My suggestion is to drop it and move on. At least you have the upper hand if she asks you to clean again - its her fault for not paying you.

OBTW, she can easily call up her last few months bank statements to see if the cheque has been presented for payment.

I had a cheque delivered to the wrong address last month and the home owner kindly hand delivered to me, so there is a possibility that she did post you a cheque and it didn't arrive, albeit a very slim possibility.

Two years ago I had to prove to a County Court that I had payed a bill by cheque. I paid the cheque out about three years previous to that. Within about 5 days I had a photo copy of the cheque sent by my bank so it should be easy enough for you to sort.

It might be good to keep a cheque schedule.  I don't write down cheque numbers, 'cos I am too lazy - and a lot of my schedule is in 'shorthand' (I don't write down full addresses either), but this is what I do:

I keep a list of cheques that I pay into the bank and list each one individually on a sheet of paper with the following information:

Date  Name  Address  Amount  Remarks

It's then easy to see who paid by cheque and there's no confusion.

If she cannot prove that the cheque has been paid out to you the account its  still open and the amount still owed to your account.As cheque are a promissory note, same as a I O U and if you have not received cash then she still owes you the payment. Even if you lost the cheque. She is obliged to give you the cheque number as part of her proof to pay. I would write her a letter and say you will e taking legal steps to get her co-operation. She might just see you are serous. She is playing a game with you, Putting herself at risk for you X.

i do keep a record of the cheques that i pay into my bank every week.
thats how i know it hasn't been payed in or received.
i knew she hadn't paid it just i wasn't going to say that to her.
i said please check if you have sent payment and if so under what reference please.(she normally pays bacs)


sometimes you gotta stand your ground and unfortunately this time its her turn.so many messers around at the moment it seems.

I've started getting nasty in my old age. Two customers were offered the choice of having the dirt returned to their windows with added interest (both paid up) another was threatened with a debt collecting agency - she paid too.

I used to worry about my reputation - don't care now.
