After every job?
« on: March 02, 2014, 07:08:24 am »
Do you clean your hose, and clean the pole hose after every job/jobs?

As we have a van mount, we reel in with one hand and have a damp cloth in the other placing the hose in your hand thus cleaning it as you reel in.

We then without fail every time putting the CLX back in the van, with a damp cloth wipe down the pole hose.

Am I suffering with OCD, or do you do the same?

I wish I was that thorough! I do not think its OCD I think its pride in your business and wanting to make things last. Do you have any employees? Are you a growing company? Because this type of mentality will make a business super successful ( you will be buying way more CLX pols lol)
What you are doing is a 'system'. I am at this minute putting 'systems' in place for my next company growth. 'Systems' ensures your future staff are doing just like you, the way you want. Keep doing it, in fact write your 'systems' down, they will become your companies Bible. I certainly will revisit this area of my business on the back of this post. Thanks for reminding me about this area.

Lee - Yes I have 1 employee, and he is exactly the same as me, if anything he is worse  ;D

Am I a growing company? I'd like to think so even tho this is my 10th year in business at the age of 28.

Over the last 2 years ive turned WFP, upgraded equipment and bought a flash new van, along with rebranded my whole company.
So would you class that at 'growing'... id say so.

And before anyone says that im patting my own back... well yeah i am as ive been to hell and back at the beginning and now boast all of the above with FAR to many customers  :D

And am very very proud in what I have acheived

I use old towels, quartered for cill wiping and hose cleaning.

If I didn't run the reel hose through a towel then I'd often get wet grass, mud,  or worse on my gloves.

The pole hose is after the tap I have in a holster on my belt and so is often looped above the ground but it often twists and gets mucky so I unclip my tap and reel it and the pole hose, still connected round the reel through the old towel.

Also when I remember I put a wrap of gaffer on the end of the pole once a week where the hose runs through and this gets any odd remaining grit
before it goes in the pole.

May be that's why (along with replacement clamps) I have my 2008 and 2010 SLX poles still running.
It's a game of three halves!

I don't bother with this unless it's pretty bad.  As for pole hose, I reduced the need to do this a long time ago because I forced myself into the habit of using it externally.  It can get in the way a bit more but at least it's not gritting the inside of the pole.

Do the exact same every house mate plus if I've been at one with loads of dog cr@p if the customer has a hose il rinse the reel and pole and its hose down too. Makes thing a bit more pleasant to work with instead of grit and dirt all over ya.

Yes I always do this every time the pole and reel hoses are put away. I have never had problems with the poles sticking or wearing out prematurely - largely due to this cleaning.

Cheers, Tom

I find that I need to as there's always dirt and grit on the pole hose, it also stops
grit getting into the van as I hang my poles in an overhead roof rack.

makes sense to clean all hoses after every job. Takes an extra 10 seconds to grab a cloth?
