guttervacs do they work
« on: February 17, 2014, 09:34:35 pm »
i am wondering if these actually work, we clear gutters all the time using ladders and we have a problem getting the crap out of a gutter when we are able to get our hand in the gutter, its usually crammed into the gutter and very hard to loosen up how on earth do you get that stuff loose from tythe ground? let alone the fact that the vacuum must get blocked every 5 seconds !!

Biggest problem I find is that the gap between the slates and gutter is to small to
allow a decent size nozzle in.

If the gutter is packed with wet compacted/grass growing then it can be very tiring trying to hook the stuff out if you are using ali tubes !   Buy carbon tubes if you can afford

Hi,

They are good to have on board your van, along with your ladders. If I turned up to a gutter job without ladders I wouldn't be doing the job properly.

On residential properties I check gutters using ladders then use the vac to suck out the easy stuff. Any vegetation or heavy mortar is removed by hand.

On large commercial properties we use a GoPro Hero 3 clamped to a 60ft carbon pole. We run round the edge of the whole building filming as we go. Then we view the video and remove any blockages/debris in the gutters. If any debris that can't be removed by the vac or is too high for ladders,  it's removed using access platforms.

In answer, yes they work very well if you choose the correct machine. 2, speak to manufacturers of machines as they know their stuff before you decide. 3, a high powered machine will do most jobs up to a certain height (we use for average house), blockage depend on what's in there, also you will learn techniques on how to avoid. Ps. Buy a dustbin to empty drum as sometimes if you are working continuously in the same road it won't be possible to empty waste. Good luck

Ps. We do NOT use a ladder to check gutter. It defeats the object somewhat. Price for house, go to work with vac, use camera upon completion. GET PAID:)

darran thanks for the reply can i ask how you accesssed that gutter was it off the tiled roof or what looks like a flat roof to thre right, it looks to havre done a great job, although i can see a lot of sticks and things in there i would have thought a vacuum would struggle with, thats the reason for my question really.
cheers mate

Do they work? Yes and no. Most work very well in the summer months sucking up dry dirt but the smaller ones can struggle with root masses. I had a job today and my Nilfisk struggled to be honest. The job needed my 3000w vac but as it's so big I can't be arsed to carry it about all day.

correct some houses have slates or tiles almost covering the gutters leaving a small gap which even your hand cant get into. some times i have to pull the plastic gutter down the way so i can get my hand in.

Bill neither, the roof to the right is a plastic conny roof and I don't get on tiled roofs for love nor money, for this job we simply put up a small platform to work off and vac horizontally along about 22 ft.  No access the other end.  Took around 15 minutes

Sucks up sticks, mortar, pine cones etc...

Omni vac. Just over 4 years old.

I use a wireless camera. And fibreglass telescopic flagpole

Camera from spy cameras dot something like that.  The little bird box type cost £75 for camera and receiver flagpole was around £30
