This weather is getting seriously bad for business
« on: February 02, 2014, 02:52:13 pm »
I guess like several of you I'm well behind still with this weather  ::)roll. And here in west Wales it doesn't look like it's improving any time soon:
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&regionName=wl&fcTime=1391385600

The problem for me is that my year end is 5th April, so any delays from now pushes 4 and 8 weekly work beyond that date. Luckily I don't draw a full wage each month, but rather pay myself a "bonus" twice a year when figures for that period are in. Looks like this year's March bonus is going to be slim...

Are there any lads here who are based largely in the Somerset Levels - must be even tougher, so I wish you well.

I am near the south west coast of Ireland.

Yes the constant rain is a pain, but as long as I am ticking over at this time of the year I am happy.

What sort of wind is a no no - my first day of wfp tomorrow and I'd like to introduce my custies to a great finish and not wind lashed streaks!  It's going to be about 20 knots gusting to 35, I wouldn't go out in that with my ladders.

I work through all but the worst weather. Rain.....fine. Wind........fine. Heavy rain and high wind I think about not working, sometimes still work through it.

This winter has been great for me so far. No snow so I've not been stuck in doors.

Cant really complain about the weather up here in north east scotland, esp compared to what some of you guys down in england are having to put up with. Forecast for next week not looking that bad at the moment, so will hopefully get out. I am at one of those, 'how strong a wind should i work in?' moments!. Set to be dry tomorrow, but in the area i hope to work, gusting to 48mph  :-\ ??? :(

Simon what's the continual wind speed due to be?  I wouldn't in 48mph winds, but down here it'll be about 18 gusting to 35 and I'm thinking screw it, just go to work!  If I get a big gust, just redo that bit

I believe it is supposed to be around 26mph. Thing is, it is a small village, and i have quite a few new houses on the outskirts, pretty exposed!.

But i have just txt'd a couple of customers to say i'm goin to be out, will see how it goes...........! :)

Depends what you are willing todo. Last week i started at 8.30am everyday instead of 9.30am. Finished when it got dark.

Had 2 days off due to weather, but worked like a trojan all week.

One day i worked solidly for nearly 4 hours before stopping.

felt it this weekend. Everything aches, but hey ho.

Tomorrow i have help so thats good, one van failed MOT last week, and its off the road tomorrow. Mine is tomorrow night as well. Gotta plan MOT's better!
