I think I am on the same wavelength but I don't want to franchise.

My 5 year plan now is to expand to 1500 customers with 2 vans and stop working (cleaning) I want to do the paperwork and run my company not do the work.

2 years have gone by,  last year I started and worked like mad, this year was my "easy" year.  I just cleaned and basically didn't advertise.
2014 and 2015 are going to be my 2 busy years,  60 0000 leaflets and canvassing.

I want to move from 300 customers to 1000 in the next 2 years.

Oh and I will do it because that's my goal - I know I can and there's not much stopping me now.

Thats exactly what i did in 18 months, went from 300 crap all over the place customers to 1100 well priced compact customers..
I originally only wanted 600 customers but just carried on untill i couldnt take on any more work without buying another van.
Look forward to hearing your journey to the end result.
It will most defo be worth it for you.

Why not have a fleet of vans all working for themselves under your 'banner' so too speak, all paying you a comission because you have done all the initial hard work, ie building your brand, good reputation, marketting techniques and supplying them with there customers.
Who seriously wants to be cleaning windows till they retire?

Before you all start saying dont be daft why would anyone do that? Surely they would start up there own business from scratch!
This is a fair comment, many on here would not dream of buying into a franchise set up, but guess what, thousands out there will and do, so many people want the flexibility of been self employed but are too scared to take the plunge. Franchising offers them a form of security.

I would seriously recommend all serious window cleaning business builders to consider the 'Franchise' route for building a great business and a very nice 'residual' income that you will recieve long after you have layed your pole down from its last clean.

Hope this sheds some light onto the title of this post.
Happy cleaning!

Fair point.
Personally I hope never to retire.
Like I said, a little work does you good.

Post something on the internet and get sponsorship, that's the only real way of getting paid for doing nothing

my five year plan is to have a number of vans out there, we are delving into other products and services and will continue to grow, since taking on my first employee I've already cut my window cleaning duties down (first cleans and commercials only)  and I'm working hard at new ventures, my first hurdle is vat once I get over that threshold I won't stop till I have 3-4 vans then will take the franchise route for other areas, im 44 now and I'm aiming to be quite static by the time I reach 50

Hello David but I think you are talking nonsense. , if you are a window cleaner you will be cleaning windows day in and day out , get your head out of the clouds .

If you believe you will be in the same position in 5 years time you will as you won't see any opportunity as such.

If you believe you can advance in some small/large way you will see every opportunity that presents itself.

Zuckerburg invited 5 people to his room when he had an 'idea', only 2 attended.

The most expensive thing in life is a missed opportunity.

Thanks for the constructive comments.

My current position.

I have been lucky to have 2 great guys (one the brother in law and the second a good friend) start up and work for themselves under my name. They organise when they work, collect there money in, run there own vans and equipment. The first of these has worked for a year and the second just over 2 months.
I have give up some of my immediate income in suppling these with work over the past year or so for a longer term financial security.
I am putting another 2 vans on the road in 2014 using the same system.

Employing IMO has to many problems and stress.
I as I said earlier have been fortunate to find 2 good guys and will be purchasing the Mr Lancaster system in the new year ready for the next 2 vans (make sure I am protected). (Sorry a year later than i thought Ian but will be in touch early January)

Residual income here I come.  ;D
