ran out of gas after 6 days
« on: November 19, 2013, 05:59:36 pm »
well 3pm this afternoon 13kg gas bottle ran out.hose just turned to wire.coldest day this winter so far.im a bit annoyed cos i thought it would last longer!! ::)roll

so ive had 6 days using hot water averaging 6 hours a day using the heater so £4 a day.

ive heard some of you guys getting 2 weeks(10 days)out of a 13kg bottle or was it the 19kg one?

anyway theres  a calor gas supplier just around the corner where most of my work is so got a refill for £24-50.

so potentially it could cost me near on  £100 a month on gas to use it every day through my working month.

i have the temperature control on L5 slightly above minimum.not scalding hot but warm to the touch.i was expecting a few more days work before running out.

so realistically how long does your gas last?? ::)roll

many thanks in advance lads

u need to find somebody with a large gas tank and the handpump to refill a bottle from.  most workplaces with a gas forklift have one and its the very cheapest  way to get gas

If you get the green patio gas bottles they have a gauge on them so you can see how much gas in in the bottle, and will not run out,

i dunno.  propane is cheaper than butane i do know that. and forktrucks usually run on propane .  they fill the gas bottle by hand with a pump

So 6 days x 6 hours= 36 hours of use out of a 13kg gas bottle.
Corwoods say that boiler will do up to 28 hours with an 11kg gas bottle?:

I know one of the guys on here,I think it was Richard Clues, his bottle lasted a long time, but he only had it like warm.

Have you actually measured the temperature because for this time of year it sounds like you have got it running way too hot.

I have a 13 kg bottle and it lasts 6days in the summer running 2 reels 6 hours a day at 35-40deg at the brush. It cost £15 till fill at the LPG pump.

it sounds to me like some guys on here have ahem....overstretched how long their gas lasts or dont use it every day.

i dont see the point in not using it every day at the moment in this cold weather.it adds a bit of comfort while working.hoses have been great to work with and it warms your hands up when gathering hose up.

also ive noticed windows seem to dry a lot quicker and rinse the dirt off better/quicker.

oh well it looks more like £80-£100 a month on gas so £400 for 4 months in winter or a grand a year if i use it all the time(taking off holidays etc).

ill be putting a lot of customers prices up next april thats for sure! ;D

yeah some days lee ive had it at 40-45 degrees.shifts the dirt quicker but today it was at 30degrees due to it being colder.so going off what you ve said its probably about right.

Is there anything to be said for filling the tank from a hot tap?
I've done it before and it seemed to last all day.
