Ian,
Iguess there is no definition for wrapping yet.  Insurance companies do not know what the wrapping is, may be because the call centres are not in the UK anymore. I could only get insurance for wrapped car from egle star.  very good price under £900 ;) for all my insurances (motor, PL and EL).

Arthur

Will you wrap it yourself or go to a shop and get them to wrap it for you?

If I was buying new I would expect it fully wrapped, but if it was second hand probably not. Clinton's do a good range, but they are expensive, not sure how long it would last either.

OMG!   LOL    How funny!!!

Stop it please!  LOL

Can't imagine wrapping would affect insurance..........it's only vinyl signwriting and doesn't affect the vehicles structure.

I'd have thought the definition was straightforward .........wrapping is just covering the outer surface with a light film of vinyl for the purpose of advertising products or services.

Eagle star are LIARS - over the phone they say one figure and put in the post a different one, much, much higher.  Phoned to them today asking to confirm and they say that the quote which got by post is the quote I was given over the phone.  Eagle star is a part of Zurich and I am not going to deal with those LIARS anymore.

I would have thought if anything a wrapped/written van should have a discount given on insurance as its less likely to be stolen if it stands out (just wish someone from the insurance industry would realise this!!!),i used to keep 2 escort vans in my drive, identical except colour(1 white, the other signal orange with reflective blue signing)over a 3 year period the white van suffered 5 break ins, all to the drivers door and went walkabout twice, the second time being found burned out, the orange van got broken into via the back door once and a gennie that id stupidly left in it walked, both vans had identical security and were left side by side every night with the white one nearer the house under a security light,a guy in a neighbouring village had a similar thing with a pair of transits, 1 ex rac in orange, the other ex bt in grey, the grey one had several break ins before going missing and the bright orange van wasnt touched, the only trouble being that when driving the orange van you had to be careful about sticking your fingers up at other drivers because it stuck out in the crowd ;D

I wasnt going to comment on this topic as I dont do sign writing or advertising at all but ....... The reason why insurance goes up on sign written vehicles is because it is a high risk vehicle. What makes it so is 2 things....1) you are advertising that there maybe something worth nicking inside and 2) to the scammers out there particularly in the U.S. it is an invite to get into an accident with because they think the sign written vehicle is or could be a big company and therefor a better chance of a good pay out..... sad but true....I enquired to have the inside of my van insured and the insurance company said under no terms would they insure the contents if the van was sign written.... Best, Dave.

Thanks Arthur..............but I got in touch with hsbc and they wont insure me regardless of sign writing or not......they referred me to Zurich and they wont either and lastly they said to try Anthony Jones and they dont do that type of insurance either. They did suggest if you have offices then sometimes the office insurance can cover goods in transit but that isnt of any use to me as I dont have an office. ............Graig if you know of any one at hsbc that can insure me please let me know but again they said they dont offer that type of insurance at all. Best, Dave.

hsbc quoted me for contents of van,as long as they were my own "tools of the trade", goods in transit tends to refer to goods being carried for profit, youd need to go through someone who specialises in commercial vehicle insurance if thats whats required, i told them the van was written (they didnt ask) and they said it doesnt make a difference,

McGergor Lloyd, Brimingham will insure your van truckmount portables ect and also do treatment risks, Details from the NCCA. Might seam pricy compared to others,, but they know our business inside out.
I had a claim and they were great.

Ok, I have got in touch with HSBC that dont cover what I need......Zurich that dont cover what I need.....Anthony Jones that dont cover what I need......McGregor Lloyd, they will cover the truck mount but NOT the portables of any type, air movers, wands, upholstery tools, portable hwe machines, floor machines, hoses, sprayers, tools, water softener, pumps, shall I go on. So again I ask, has anyone got contents insurance that covers contents, bolted down contents as well as loose contents. P.S. McGregor Lloyd will only cover the truck mount if they insure the van as well. Best, Dave.....The wands I have alone would cost 3200 to replace, by the time you add up all the measuring devices too I would end up at close to 5200.

I brought my insurance as Ive said before through hsbc, public liability and treatment risk, they also definately gave me a written quotation for tools left in the van, which I didnt take as I have seperate insurance that covers them, strange beasts insurance companies, Andy
