Dave do you need to produce that much water in 3 hours as when I'm sleeping the tanks filling. And I have a 1000L produced each morning. Spose if your using more than a 1000L's a day then I agree with a system you have, if your only using around 400 or 550 a day then my system is fine. Spose your system is good if your on a water metre !!! 🌝

When i first started i had a system like yours 300GPD system it give me nothing but trouble! and hardly any water  i soon out grew that system and got a bigger setup.

for me in a low pressure area the bigger setup works better regards to my PPM i could not get the little systems below 30PPM.

and smudger is right! i would simply run out of water if i had the system you are  using! but if it works for you great  and thats all that matters. however even if i was using only a small amount of water i would only need to run it 2 hours or so in the evening to keep my IBC topped up.
Dave.

Cheers Darren for the info I don't understand your and Daves RO systems, thought everyone's were much the same using carbon, sediment & granular filters with membranes on top

Spose if yous are using around 1200g per day which is a hell of some water to use in a day there must be a few of yas sharing the water as my 450 I use in a day with 100 psi pumping through would take me around 6 hours to use on me own

Why do so many people change there filters and membranes to quickly !!!! I hear some change pre filters 2 or 3 monthly and same with membranes ? Don't understand your just wasting money I think. I change my pre filters probably once a year membranes maybe 4 years. I've had this new ro system for about 4 months got a 25L DI bottle and my TDS is still reading 000 I prob won't change the resin until my TDS reading hits 015 - 020 !!!!

Could yous let me know why you or most change them to early

Could not agree with you more I change mine twice a year and my R.O. is going on 5 years.
It amazes me how many spend the cost of a new membrane yearly just to save an old membrane.
Guys when a filter gets blocked it stops water flow it doesn't start letting dirt through as long as its not
degraded.
Even after six months my filters are still solid so nothing is getting through, well nothing that didn't get through
when they where new.

John you must be using the same system as me, I bet there are
Many out there with our systems that do waste
Money in changing filters when not needed, I'm guessing some shops that they buy from are saying you must change filters every six months which is untrue

Thanks for your reply John & whom ever replys

Regards Dannymack 😜

The way i understand it the main reason for the particle filter is to stop the carbon filter becoming blocked before it stops removing chlorine , its the chlorine that damages the membrane as particles will just flow out with the waste stream.

if you leave your carbon filters too long and they stop removing chlorine it will destroy your membrane very quickly.

I imagine the amount of chlorine varies slightly in different water company areas so that may affect the life of the carbon filter.

A false economy not to change it regularly considering how cheap they are .

Also a partially blocked filter will reduce pressure to the R.O and make it work less efficiently.
