Filter changing !!!!
« on: October 20, 2013, 01:57:26 pm »
Why do so many people change there filters and membranes to quickly !!!! I hear some change pre filters 2 or 3 monthly and same with membranes ? Don't understand your just wasting money I think. I change my pre filters probably once a year membranes maybe 4 years. I've had this new ro system for about 4 months got a 25L DI bottle and my TDS is still reading 000 I prob won't change the resin until my TDS reading hits 015 - 020 !!!!

Could yous let me know why you or most change them to early

Suppose it depends what the tds of your tap water is.

I have just changed my membrane after 5 years of use... i change my pre filters about every 3 months because it protects the membrane and for the price of them why not? there cheap. My tap TDS is 380 so i like to change them regular.

If you look at the new Fibredyne filter 10 inch CFB-PLUS it can cope with 37000 liters before it needs changing, that's not a lot of water really because it includes your pure at waste. You would defiantly use more than that in a year if you didn't change them

I right, yes my water is about 380 ish, I know filters arnt that much Dave around £36 for the X3 20" filters but the membranes are only £30 each so why keep changing filters every 3 months to save membranes as your changing every 3 months will work out more expensive over the years. My system before this one I had around 8 1/2 years I changed my membranes on the 5 th year and pre filters around yearly sometimes would last 18 months depending on my Tds pure water reading but thanks for your reply 🌞

Nope gaps water.

40 inch membrane 226 pounds or 21 inch membrane 201 pounds http://www.gapswater.co.uk/acatalog/HF5-4040-Ultra-Low-Pressure-Membrane-2911.html

That type of membrane i was talking about not the more domestic system that i think your using

Funny these filters threads are popping up. I changed mine this morning as was going to put a thread on about not leaving them too long.
I usually change mine every 3 months, this time I left these in for about 6 months. Look at the inside of the pre filter, all that crap is now heading for the membranes, making their life a lot shorter. Makes sense to me to get back to changing every 3 months, maybe even sooner.
Also photos are under kitchen light, they look even worse under natural light.

My understanding is carbon only has a life of six months once emersed in water less if you have xxxx's ltrs per day going though  these are vital to protect your membrane

If chorine gets to the RO membrane it's knackered and at around £7 for replacement it's better than 200+ membrane replacement

David my work is 99% commercial m8 I've got a 450gpd ro I think you need to change your system m8 as it sounds like your spending out far tooooo much doe on filters and membranes 🌞

Mind you we do around 300 - 400 a day 🌞

Daveo you'd be better off fitting a booster pump as that membrane you got is for low pressure at. 40psi or lower, I'd defo get booster pump instead and purchase the cheaper Xeon membranes not only that when you've got a booster pump the pre filters last alot longer 🌞

i do have a booster pump.

how long does it take you to produce 100 litres of pure? my water pressure is low.

just because a small RO works for you doesn't mean it would work for you somewhere else! its all down to your water flow and pressure! that membrane last me 5 years! so i DONT CHANGE MY MEMBRANE every three months! just my filtres!

whats your tds after your RO? certainly wont me 0

My TDS after my ro is around 009 I've got to inline refers and both differ one says 5 the other 12 so I'm guessing around 009. My tap water is around 380 ish before the water goes into my DI resin I've got a shut off switch and run another pipe into my drain. As when I first start filling my van and my pump kicks in to start the process of making water my Tds before going into my DI is around 058 so I switch the cut out switch across to bypass the DI into the drain as soon as it goes down to around 009 I switch the cut out open to put the water through my DI bottle
Making my resin last much longer. I use to have the Omnipole Commercial system cost around £900 where I didn't use resin as I had the Di spectrum filter which cost a fair bit went wrong so bought this 450 GPD ro with 20" pre filters makes pure water just as fast won't need to change my filters for around a year and X3 Xeon10" membranes around 4 years alot cheaper than yours and as I said I've had this one going for 4 months and I'm still hitting 000 I know the booster pump does alot in making filters last longer. Also I've added a 10" sediment filter before the water goes through my booster to stop cheap going in it and its alot quieter.

Dave my pressure is around 85 after comming out of my booster so got brilliant pressure and can produce 100L's in around a 5 hours 🌞

I normally use around 300 to 400L aday sometimes more as I have a 450 tank in the van and put 450 in some days if I take out 450 out of the 1000L static tank in garage, ill full van up at around 2pm and by 4.30 am next morning it's nearly full again as I've got the electronic solenoid cut off in static tank 🌞I also put this new ro in around end of May and my Tds is still reading 000

theres the difference in your system and mine!

after 14 hours its nearly full you say!

where as mine would replace that water in 3 hours or in 14 hours i could have produced 2300 odd litres

Dave do you need to produce that much water in 3 hours as when I'm sleeping the tanks filling. And I have a 1000L produced each morning. Spose if your using more than a 1000L's a day then I agree with a system you have, if your only using around 400 or 550 a day then my system is fine. Spose your system is good if your on a water metre !!! 🌝

Danny were slightly at cross purposes carbon filters (all the ones I know of) are black either solid or granulated ad the carbon can only absorb so much before allowing chorine into the membrane.

The white ones are sediment filters and you can use them pretty much until they start to restrict the flow of water ie are stuffed full of sediment

As with Dave we use nearly 3 times that per day and when checking the flow of pure the production rate was just under 200 ltrs ph. Our TDS is 320 and getting 008 after RO so I don't di it.
