The tinny base plate looks very very thin, I'd plan on using no nails type sealant that can withstand high temperatures, but that base plate looks like it's prone to crumpling and distorting. Is it that bad?

I'm going to seal the top with some powdercoated aluminium anyway, so I'll see if I can tweak the mushroom vent a bit more before ripping it off and starting anew.
