Gardiners Xtreme Wide Brush
« on: July 03, 2013, 04:39:11 pm »
Hey all,

I got my new xtreme wide brush today and although I love the size and weight, I have a feeling its not quite right............

I am sure these brushes are meant to be sprung, so that the outer bristles hit the glass before the central bristles, then when slight pressure is put on the brush it springs flat on the glass, my brush seems to be sprung the wrong way so that the central bristles hit the glass first. Maybe I got it wrong but have a look at the pic and see what you think?

Ceers, Gary

I have one and you seem to be correct. Mine bows the opposite way.

Hi Gary

The new wide Xtreme wide brush does have a curve in the direction that you have identified and this is not a fault but is how the plastic is shaped due to its lighter weight. Because of the soft and easily splayed nature of the bristles on this stock when the brush is placed on the glass it takes only the most minimal of pressure (usually just the weight of the gooseneck) to allow all of the bristles to touch and ‘work’ the glass. In fact the bristles on the outer edge will work slightly more effectively as the ends of each bristle strand will have better contact with the glass compared to the more heavily splayed bristles on the centre of the brush. Hence the brush will still work perfectly well in action – although it does look slightly strange.

I hope that clarifies this brush for you.

As a side point - I have removed the old brush guide video from Youtube as this is now out of date as most of the brushes featured have changed considerably, including this brush which has now got a totally different stock. A new guide is being shot later this week.

My mistake sorry. I think i must have the SuperLite 45cm, not the new extreme, which does bow the opposite way.
